Only Murders in the Building is seemingly set to welcome back Glee star Jane Lynch in its upcoming fourth season – despite her character Sazz Pataki dying in the finale of Season 3. While the actress’ return may not completely be a surprise, it is also easily explained, as it appears she will feature in a series of flashbacks in half of the new episodes.
Sazz met her maker in Season 3 when she was shot in Charles’ apartment in a shocking departure for her character. However, the small matter of death cannot keep a good character down, and Lynch confirmed her involvement in the new season while speaking to People. She explained:
Well, I’m the murder victim, which is not a tease… and so I have some really great flashbacks.

The Emmy-winning actress added that she also appears in the season in “another way” but did not elaborate any further on that comment. However, she did go on to note that her presence in the season will be pretty extensive.
I don’t want to give it away though, but I’m in it a lot. I’m in five out of 10 episodes, so I’m excited.
The plot of Season 4 will see Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez), and Oliver (Martin Short) “searching for answers about who killed her, if they were actually aiming for Charles, and why anyone would want to kill either of them.” With the usual mix of twists and turns, fans of the show will already be prepared for the answers to come eventually after many red herrings and false leads.
Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Will Focus on Consequences
Only Murders in the Building has captivated audiences with its blend of mystery and humor, as well as giving the careers of Martin and Short a late career boost in the process. Along with Gomez, the pair have endeared themselves to viewers as the unlikely trio of true-crime podcast enthusiasts who find themselves embroiled in real murder mysteries happening right under their noses in their own apartment block.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner John Hoffman explained that the new season will have a recurring theme of “consequences.” He said:
“I think the idea of what you create is a thing you put out to the world, and sometimes you can’t be prepared for the repercussions of what potentially the world does with your thing, and how they feel about it. That’s a challenging line to walk, and sometimes you have to face it in that way. So, the podcast and everything else that’s happened, and what it all means, and what it could have been meaning all along. That’s a really interesting world to look at for these three who stepped in that way.”
