Actor, singer, and film producer Selena Gomez has quite the lengthy resume. While the star initially began her entertainment career appearing on Barney & Friends, Gomez later went on to star in Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place in addition to releasing numerous albums. Since then, the actor has appeared in a variety of films and television shows, most recently starring in Only Murders in the Building, a mystery series that has now earned the Spring Breakers star her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for acting.
According to E! News, Gomez’s nomination is in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series–Musical or Comedy category for her role as Mabel Mora in the aforementioned Only Murders in the Building. The news came earlier today when Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva announced the nominees for the upcoming 80th annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The other nominees in Gomez’s category are Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, Kaley Cuoco for The Flight Attendant, Jenna Ortega for Wednesday, and Jean Smart for Hacks.

Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-stars, Steven Martin and Martin Short, are also up for awards. Martin and Short are both contenders for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series–Musical or Comedy category for their roles as Charles-Haden Savage (Martin) and Oliver Putnam (Short). The Hulu series Only Murders in the Building has also been nominated for Best Television Series–Musical or Comedy. The show is among one of the most-nominated television series of the year, along with Abbott Elementary, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Pam & Tommy, and The White Lotus.

Selena Gomez Said Working On Only Murders in the Building “Was One of the Greatest Opportunities”

During a previous interview with Good Morning America to speak about Only Murders in the Building’s season 2 premiere, Gomez appeared alongside her co-stars Martin and Short to talk about her experience working on the series. Gomez (who is also credited as an executive producer on the show) told GMA, “This show has changed my life in so many ways.” She added, “Being able to take this role was one of the greatest opportunities, and then I’m surrounded by these guys who are certified legends and just it’s a blast.”
Martin also affirmed Gomez’s statement. He said, “It really is [a great time] because it’s you want to do it. When you do a movie you think well it’ll be over in three months and then everybody dissipates, but here I think there’s an ongoing camaraderie ongoing story and I think we still have, you know, something to give.”
The cast will find out the results of their Golden Globe nominees at the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday, January 10th.
