Hulu has unveiled the official key art and trailer for the streamer’s upcoming Solar Opposites Holiday Special. Set to premiere on Nov. 22, the special episode, dubbed “A Very Solar Holiday Opposites Special,” features the most festive adventure for the Solar Opposites yet. You can check out the trailer below to see what’s in store for fans ahead of the premiere.
Solar Opposites is co-created by Justin Roiland (Rick & Morty) and Mike McMahan (ex-writer’s assistant on Rick & Morty). It features the voices of Justin Roiland, Thomas Middleditch, Mary Mack, and Sean Giambrone. Roiland and McMahan executive produce with Josh Bycel. 20th Century Television produces.
The synopsis reads, “Solar Opposites centers around a team of four aliens who escape their exploding home world only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth. On season 2 of Solar Opposites, the Solar Opposites take it bigger, funnier, and more opposite than ever before.”
“[With the] first season, we had been learning about the show while making it,” McMahan told Syfy Wire of the series. “We knew we were doing the Wall stuff, we were learning about the characters, we were learning about how the voice actors are playing the characters. [When it came to] season 2, we went into it and we’re like, ‘OK, we’ve done eight episodes. Now let’s figure out what we can do narratively with this show. Let’s amp everything up. Let’s just go crazy. Let’s keep the Wall going, but do a whole new style of story.'”
He added, “The Wall is kind of like The Wire, where there was always a different flavor every season. [We wanted to continue] building out the story of the Wall and we continue to do that in Season 3 into a whole new direction and a really cool way. And for the Solar Opposite side of the story, for the Solars, [we never wanted to] constrained to what we thought the show was supposed to be. The Solars are so funny and big – what are stories that can get big and crazy that can only be in this show?”
The second season of the show premiered earlier this year, but we know that there will be plenty more of the series to come. Beyond its upcoming holiday special and third season, the series has also been renewed for a fourth season on Hulu. While the first two seasons each consist of eight episodes, the plan is to go longer with the next two seasons, as season 3 and season 4 are both set to be given 12 episodes each.
The Solar Opposites Holiday Special will premiere on Monday, Nov. 22. Episodes of the series can be streamed on Hulu.
