Sydney Sweeney is exploring uncharted waters and “a new process” as she prepares to reprise the role of Cassie Howard over three years after the conclusion of Euphoria Season 2. The HBO Original series is facing a brutal time jump — possibly four years if the third season doesn’t drop until 2026 — and if Euphoria fans had actually held their breath waiting for Season 3, everyone would have ended up in the same shape as poor Ash in the Season 2 finale. That said, the immensely popular drama, which also stars Zendaya as the show’s lead character, Rue, is reportedly starting production at the beginning of 2025. And Sweeney spoke with Cosmopolitan about trying to find the character of Cassie again so many years later (below):
“We did have a long time between season one and season two, but especially now with the time jump, it’s a new process for me.
I’m kind of just learning as I go and being open for whatever’s to come.
But I’m also really excited. I love Cassie.
She is always such a thrilling character to play,
so I’m really looking forward to what’s gonna happen in her life.”
Sweeney has gone on to make the best of her euphoric hiatus from the hit HBO series, and she has been busy starring in a number of high-profile theatrical releases, including Anyone but You, Immaculate, and the much-maligned Madame Web. But beginning in January 2025, Sweeney returns to Cassie’s stomping grounds in the fictional East Highland, California.

Sydney Sweeney Reveals That She’s ‘Coming Home’
While it appeared that Cassie’s (Sweeney) toxic, newfound romance with Nate (Jacob Elordi) was left in shambles during Lexi’s (Maude Apatow) school play, Maddy (Alexa Demie) reminded her one-time BFF that it’s only the beginning. Hunter Schafer’s Jules is also left in the dark about her own future with Rue (Zendaya), but the complicated on-screen drama is nothing of the sort when it comes to the real-life set. And Sydney Sweeney is excited to reunite with her Euphoria family again. The actress said during the same sit-down:
“I’ve always said that it feels like I’m coming home to my family.
They were the crew and the cast that were there at the beginning of my career.
We all came up from different places but came together and were navigating so much at the same time.
So, it’s really nice having that core group. They’re experiencing a similarity to what I’m going through.
It’s nice to have that community.”
Sadly, one member of the Euphoria fam will not be returning for Season 3. The death of 25-year-old Angus Cloud leaves his character Fez’s future in serious doubt, and there’s not any word yet if he’ll be recast, or if the lovable drug dealer will disappear from the show altogether. Sweeney told Glamour that Euphoria’s cast members “were constantly on the phone with each other crying, because it was just such a shock.” Cloud’s character, Fez, was last seen being taken into police custody after Ash finds himself justifiably shot down, and his bereaved brother watches it all unfold in horror.
