The CW’s In The Dark Season 4: Everything We Know

Spoiler Warning: In the Dark Seasons 1-3

In October 2021, we saw the season 3 finale of In The Dark. Now, six months later, we couldn’t help but wonder when and even if we can expect to see the fourth season of our beloved show. Thankfully, The CW did confirm back on Feb. 3, 2022, that the show has been officially renewed for season 4. We were left with many storylines in the season 3 finale, which we need answers to in the upcoming season.

In The Dark is a dark crime dramedy that focuses on Murphy (Perry Mattfeld), an alcoholic, blind, emotionally immature, sex-addict protagonist along with her gang. This 20-something cynical woman has a lot going on, including solving a murder, which we saw in the initial season. However, things get darker and more involved for Murphy as she gets involved in blackmailing, money laundering, looking for a missing person, breaking and entering, and getting involved with the criminal underworld. We did see Murphy become a fugitive from justice in the third season.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

If you’ve been watching In The Dark since season one, you know exactly how much this show has changed since then. We have witnessed countless plot twists and chaos. If you are eagerly waiting to know Murphy’s fate in the upcoming season and everything else about the other characters, here is everything we know so far about season 4.

Questions We Expect to Get Answered

The CW

In the Dark season 3 ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger, which means for fans like us, we couldn’t help but wonder what’s next in store for the group. It is evident that Murphy and her BFF Jess, and many others need to work on themselves and their relationships with people around them before they can move ahead. That said, we see the latest decision of Murphy may have possibly already made that choice since she turned herself in by accounting for all her wrongdoings. Does this mean we will see her spend her time permanently in jail from now on? Or, considering how chaotic the circumstances are lately surrounding her, including corruption, will the charges even stick to her?

Since we are on the topic of relationships, one relationship that fans definitely want to see being addressed is the friendship between Jess and Murphy. Back in October, when we saw the season 3 finale, we saw how toxic Jess and Murphy’s relationship had become. Jess couldn’t take all of Murphy’s selfish ways, which is why most of us fans weren’t exactly surprised to see Jess pull off a Houdini. But, the question does beg to be asked, did Jess take this too far? Or is Murphy alone to be blamed for Jess’ disappearing act? It’s all these questions that we expect to be answered in the upcoming fourth season.

What About Pretzel?

We can’t talk about the upcoming season four without mentioning Pretzel. It seems we will definitely see Pretzel in the fourth season of In The Dark. Pretzel is hands-down the most beloved character on this show. We saw this adorable golden retriever and Perry Mattfeld get a ton of screen time in the last season for obvious reasons. Even off-screen, the two are best buds, as she is crazy about her four-legged co-star.

If you have been religiously watching In The Dark from the very first season, you know exactly how rough Murphy got with her dog in some scenes. Mattfeld even admitted that she felt terrible about it, and once the cameras stopped rolling, she would get down on her knees and give the retriever a big hug to remind him what a fantastic job he was doing and how much he was loved.

Potential Release Date

The CW

So far, there is no official announcement from The CW about In The Dark’s season 4 release date. However, since the show’s renewal was announced back in February, we expect to hear the upcoming release date very soon.

All three seasons of In The Dark have been consistently released every year since 2019, even through the pandemic. We saw seasons one and two released in April 2019 and 2020. There was a slight delay with the third season since it aired in June 2021 instead of April. Given these dates, we expect to see season 4 drop sometime in the next few months itself.
