Volume one of Netflix’s The Witcher season 3 has been recently released, and the cast members are gearing up for the arrival of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt. With season 3 focusing on Geralt’s mission to protect Ciri of Cintra and their reunited family, the stakes are higher than ever. As they navigate a world filled with monarchs, mages, and dangerous creatures vying to capture Ciri, the bond between Geralt and his charge grows stronger. In their quest for safety, Yennefer leads them to the fortified stronghold of Aretuza, hoping to unlock Ciri’s hidden powers. However, they soon find themselves entangled in a web of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery, forcing them to confront these new challenges head-on.
During an interview with ComicBook, Joey Batey, Freya Allen, and Anya Chalotra were asked about their thoughts on Henry Cavill’s departure from the show and its potential impact on the upcoming Season 4. Anya Chalotra, who portrays Yennefer, expressed her excitement about Liam Hemsworth joining the cast as Geralt. She acknowledged the significance of Cavill’s departure and how it would be a “bizarre” experience without him. Nonetheless, Chalotra remained optimistic about the future of the show and shared her enthusiasm for the new direction The Witcher would take with Hemsworth’s portrayal of the iconic character. She said:
“Excited. Yeah, can’t wait to have Liam on board. Well, he is, but to meet him and have him as Geralt. It’s going to be bizarre, and I feel like I’m definitely going to feel that loss. I think we all will.”

Last October, fans were taken by surprise when it was announced that Henry Cavill would be departing from his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. The unexpected twist came with the news that Liam Hemsworth would be stepping into Cavill’s shoes. The Witcher producer, Tomek Baginski, shed some light on the transition, describing the plan as “meta” and deeply rooted in Andrzej Sapkowski’s original source material. Baginski hinted at a significant connection between the new vision for Geralt and the ideas found in the fifth book. He explained:
“We have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam. Not going deeply into those ideas because this will be a huge spoiler, it’s also very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books, especially in book five.”
Since the announcement, Liam Hemsworth has been fully committed to preparing. Reports from his co-stars reveal Hemsworth’s dedication to the role, with a rigorous training regime and an enthusiastic approach to delving into the source material. Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier, shared that he has been in contact with Hemsworth, exchanging favorite quotes from the books.
“I’ve been in contact with him. We’ve been emailing, we’ve been exchanging our favorite quotes from the books and things like that. I don’t think any of us are in the position to advise on playing Geralt but he’s throwing himself into it. His training regime is insane and he’s been devouring the books.”
Volume one of The Witcher season three premiered on Netflix on June 29, while volume two is expected to arrive on the streaming platform on July 27.
