The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth has thrown himself headfirst into his preparation for taking the role of Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of The Witcher, according to his co-stars. Speaking recently with GamesRadar+, Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier in the Netflix series, revealed that Hemsworth is now “devouring” the source material and committing to an “insane” training regime in order to best take over the role of Geralt from Henry Cavill.
“I’ve been in contact with him. We’ve been emailing, we’ve been exchanging our favorite quotes from the books and things like that. I don’t think any of us are in the position to advise on playing Geralt but he’s throwing himself into it. His training regime is insane and he’s been devouring the books.”
None of the cast of The Witcher have yet to meet Liam Hemsworth, but a few of them have spoken with him. “Yes, just through email, a message of support when the news came out,” Yennefer star Anya Chalotra said, before adding, “I can’t wait to meet him.”
The sudden and surprising news that Henry Cavill will walk away from The Witcher first broke back in October last year, with the Superman actor saying, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.”
Hemsworth has since made a statement about taking over the lead role saying, “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”
Time will tell whether Hemsworth’s commitment to learning the lore of The Witcher and gaining the physique necessary wins anyone over…

The first details for how Geralt will change from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth have now been revealed, with The Witcher producer Tomek Baginski describing the plan as “meta” and “embedded” in Andrzej Sapkowski’s source material. “We have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam,” he explained. “Not going deeply into those ideas because this will be a huge spoiler, it’s also very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books, especially in book five.”
Until then, The Witcher fans have Henry Cavill’s final adventure to enjoy in season three. “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it,” the official synopsis reads. “Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”
Volume one of The Witcher season three is scheduled to debut on Netflix on June 29, with volume two due to land on the platform on July 27.
