On the second day of the D23 Expo at Anaheim Convention Center in California, during the Lucasfilm & Marvel Studios Presentation, the studio founded by George Lucas had some big announcements for fans of a galaxy far, far away. To kick off the Star Wars celebration of all things Disney fandom was the final Andor trailer, a 12-episode Star Wars series that will arrive on Disney+ in 11 days on September 21, 2022.
President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy stated that the focus of the Andor series will be what happened in the five years leading up to 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and it will give a recap of exactly what the rebellion was up against with the Empire. Per the official description:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The Andor series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.
Therefore, the series is also about the awakening of revolutionary Cassian Andor, who will once again be played by Diego Luna. “It’s also about someone finding out that there’s a purpose and something to fight for, and then you’ll see a whole community reacting. This is about bringing change and, hopefully, it will be a story you will love to watch,” said Luna.
