Zoe Kravitz Is Tiana in SNL’s Princess and the Frog Parody

Zoe Kravitz took aim at The Princess and the Frog during her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live. During the episode, a sketch was introduced as welcoming viewers back to a viewing of a live-action Princess and the Frog movie on Disney Minus, where they stream “the movies Disney doesn’t really promote as much.” The NSFW sketch, which you can watch below, also features Chris Redd as the frog and Cecily Strong as Lottie, Tiana’s best friend, who sings a rendition of the Beauty and the Beast title song with new lyrics.

In the sketch, Tiana expresses her love for the frog, but seems to quickly start losing interest once he tells her how frogs reproduce. The loss of interest goes both ways when he learns Tiana doesn’t lay eggs along with the fact that she dissected frogs in high school. Kenan Thompson makes an appearance a Dr. Facilier, the movie’s villain who turned the prince into the frog, who’s just as surprised to learn about the frog’s lack of specific body parts. Tiana goes ahead and leaves once he learns the frog is the Prince of Newark, New Jersey.

Andrew Dismukes flies into the frame as the lightning bug Ray, complete with the Cajun accent. He takes shots at the character by claiming himself to be “about the worst Disney character ever created.” The parody skit closes with the frog eating Ray and remarking that the insect tastes “delicious.”

Released in 2009, The Princess and the Frog is based on the classic German folk tale The Frog Prince. It is set in New Orleans during the 1920s and follows a hardworking waitress named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) who becomes a frog after kissing a prince who’s been turned into a frog by an evil witch doctor. A planned spinoff series, Tiana, is in the works for a 2023 release on Disney+.

Zoe Kravitz Made Her Hosting Debut on Saturday Night’s Show

NBC

As Zoe Kravitz hosting Saturday Night Live was timed to the release of The Batman, there were naturally going to be some references on the program. In one skit, Kravitz is looking for a cat when she discovers Paul Dano, who plays the Riddler in The Batman, hiding underneath a couch. In her opening monologue, Kate McKinnon appeared alongside Kravitz as an alternate version of Catwoman to throw up a “cat signal,” attracting other Catwomen of sorts played by Ego Nwodim, Aidy Bryant, and Chris Redd.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and co-written by Reeves and Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne alongside Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle. The film also stars Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Peter Sarsgaard.

You can watch the complete episode of Saturday Night Live featuring Zoe Kravitz in her hosting debut by finding it streaming on Peacock. Fans can also watch Kravitz on the big screen by watching The Batman, now playing in theaters everywhere.
