Dexter: Resurrection kicked off its inaugural season with a bang, bringing back everyone’s favorite vigilante serial killer. Fans who watched the limited series revival, Dexter: New Blood, know that Dexter (Michael C. Hall) was presumably killed by his teenage son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). But when it became clear that fans did not want to see Dexter die, at least not in that manner, the series was, well, resurrected.
In Dexter: Resurrection, fans witness the unfolding events as Angela (Julia Jones) discovers Dexter bleeding in the snow. It’s no surprise that, after being transported to the hospital and receiving intensive care from the medical team, he survives. The story follows Dexter’s journey from there to New York City to follow Harrison. But it’s Harrison’s story that takes center stage for at least part of the first two episodes, setting him up to be a big part of the new series.

By the end of Dexter: New Blood, Dexter was convinced that Harrison didn’t have a Dark Passenger like him. But before that, he opened up to his son, not only telling him who he was and what he did, but also showing him when the pair, together, took down Kurt Caldwell (Clancy Brown). However, Harrison was visibly distressed by the acts, even if he understood the reasons why Dexter did what he did, and perhaps even agreed with them.
The first episodes of Dexter: Resurrection raise questions about Harrison’s own Dark Passenger that Dexter: New Blood didn’t quite have the chance to answer. He may not have had one before, having suppressed the memory of his biological mother’s gruesome death. But knowing what Dexter did and seeing how his father rid the world of awful people, might have awakened something in the young man. Because very quickly in Episode 1, “A Beating Heart…”, Harrison becomes a killer.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Will Fix Everything Wrong With the Original Series Ending
With the trailer released and a premiere date announced, fans are excited for the sequel series, ‘Dexter: Resurrection,’ this summer.
How it all unfolds and what happens next will have a significant impact on his life. While working as a bellhop at a swanky hotel, Harrison finds himself in a sticky situation with pompous and wealthy regular guest Ryan (Bryan Lillis) and a lovely young woman named Shauna, whom he met in passing. When he sees Ryan trying to take advantage of the drugged Shauna, Harrison tries to help without getting directly involved. But he can’t stomach letting it happen. The vigilante gene is in him.
As Harrison sees visions of Kurt’s victims flash before his eyes, he ends up brutally murdering Ryan in a fit of rage before he can take advantage of the vulnerable young woman. Instead of panicking, he calmly begins cleaning up the scene. That’s because he paid attention to the lessons his father taught him. He cleans the bathroom using a solution of oxygen bleach because he knows that it won’t leave any trace of blood behind. He replaces the toilet tank cover he used to bash Ryan’s head in with a new one. He transports the body under a room service cart, using the employee service elevator to the kitchen, which he knows is now closed.
He props the body up on a stainless-steel table and uses a meat cleaver to chop it into nine parts, placing the pieces in garbage bags he sets out on the street, just in time for the evening garbage pick-up. He then washes the table and floors. He is his father’s son. But he isn’t as clean and precise as Dexter, which proves to be a massive mistake.
Harrison Needs His Father More Than Ever in ‘Dexter: Resurrection’

Before these events, it’s clear that Harrison is haunted by the blood-soaked memories of Iron Lake and the dark truths about his father. He might not want or crave to kill. But knowing that his father rid the world of bad people, he has a sense of justice, a guilty conscience that drives him. Given this, Dexter might be Harrison’s version of a Dark Passenger. It’s Dexter’s voice, in fact, that helps walk Harrison through getting rid of the body.
The problem is, he’s still green when it comes to killing, similar to Dexter when he was younger, as depicted in Dexter: Original Sin. While Harrison learned tricks of the trade through his father’s crash course, he didn’t have the same wherewithal to completely cover his tracks.
For example, when Harrison ties the garbage bags in a very distinct way that will easily be traced back not only to the hotel but to him specifically, it shows that he still has a lot to learn. Talented detective Claudette (Kadia Saraf) quickly notices this, proving to be more skilled than any detective Dexter ever faced at Miami Metro. Further, as Harrison was chopping up the body, a spot of blood hit the ceiling that he didn’t notice, something Dexter would never let happen.
For Dexter’s part, having heard of a murder where the body was cut into nine parts, then traveling to the hotel to see his son out front working, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Dexter does what he can to desperately help his son, including sneaking in to inspect the crime scene, feeling a sense of pride at how well Harrison cleaned up. He finds the speck of blood on the ceiling in the kitchen and removes it before anyone else sees it. But in the process, Dexter also gets a whiff of Claudette, recognizing what his son is up against. “Just what Harrison needs,” his inner monologue notes, “a good cop.”

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ is almost here, which means it’s time for a refresher on everything that happened in the previous chapter.
As hard as Dexter works to do what he can from the shadows, the reality is that the walls are closing in on Harrison. When Claudette and her team arrive on the scene, Harrison is haunted by visions of a bloody Ryan. He has a conscience, or at least a sense of guilt for what he has done, which could be his undoing.
Harrison doesn’t know his father is still alive, but it’s evident that he needs him now more than ever. In deciding to sell his truck — Dexter’s truck — to his friend and co-worker to get rid of any old trace of his father, Harrison makes yet another crucial mistake. Detective Angel Batista (David Zayas) had earlier asked Detective Teddy Reed (David Magidoff) to alert him about any activity on that vehicle in his effort to track down Dexter. This sale means Angel will soon be aware of Harrison and make the harrowing connection.
It spells danger for Harrison and suggests that the case of Ryan’s death and murder will become a central part of the entire season, alongside Dexter’s own story. Detective Claudette is on his tail, and Angel will likely be soon, too. With Shauna caught on camera at the bar with Ryan just before his death and now called in for questioning, she might remember something from that night that could further implicate Harrison.
In the original series, Dexter managed to go undetected as the Bay Harbor Butcher when the serial killer activity was first discovered, even skirting Sergeant James Doakes (Erik King), who found irrefutable proof that it was him. Dexter just barely squeaked by when he had Arthur Mitchell, a.k.a. Trinity Killer (John Lithgow), drugged and in the backseat of his car just before getting arrested for hitting a cop. Detective Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington) was pretty much convinced Dexter was a killer, coming this close to proving it before he decided to stop his investigation for the sake of his love for Debra (Jennifer Carpenter).
Even Detective Maria LaGuerta (Luna Lauren Vélez) realized who Dexter was, but then she died at the hands of Debra to spare him. Will Harrison be as lucky as his father in getting out of this jam?
