The Last Dinner Party share thunderous new single ‘Big Dog’ and poem ‘Come All You Beasts’

The Last Dinner Party have shared the gritty new single ‘Big Dog’ alongside a spoken word piece, ‘Come All You Beasts’.

The new releases mark the first from the former NME Cover Stars since they dropped their highly anticipated sophomore album ‘From The Pyre’ last year.

During their time on the road – even dating back to before the release of their debut album ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’ – the band have been playing ‘Big Dog’ as part of their live set and reciting a poem at each show before they play it live.

The song has remained unreleased until now, and it arrives following fans urging them to officially record and drop the song as a single.

Co-produced by The Last Dinner Party alongside Animesh Raval, the single sees Abigail Morris and co. take on a darker, more intriguing sound than some of their most popular tracks, and capture an emotive, nuanced feel similar to that of PJ Harvey.

As for the poem, ‘Come All You Beasts’ comes as “a way to introduce the folkloric and storytelling elements of ‘From the Pyre’ to ‘Big Dog’,” bassist Georgia Davies said.

“The themes of the song were interpolated with Bible verses, subverting prescriptive messages about women’s safety. We have always been inspired by poetry and performance in all forms, so spoken word with improvisational accompaniment felt like a natural extension of our art.”

The Last Dinner Party are currently out on a headline tour in the US, which runs until mid-June. From there, they head back to this side of the pond for slots at play Isle of Wight, TRNSMT, and Latitude.

They will also support Wolf Alice at Finsbury Park, and make their first festival headline appearance at Wilderness.

Other new shows include recently announced gigs supporting Olivia Rodrigo on her ‘Unraveled Tour’ – having already supported her at BST Hyde Park last summer – and opening for Sombr on his 14-date US tour.

While ‘Big Dog’ is the first standalone single that The Last Dinner Party have shared since dropping their sophomore album, they did also contribute a lovelorn, passionate track called ‘Let’s Do It Again!’ for the War Child ‘Help(2)’ charity album.

In a four-star review of their latest album, NME wrote: “‘From The Pyre’ arrives just under two years after The Last Dinner Party swirled onto the scene properly with their debut, but never feels as if it’s been hurried to capitalise on momentum. Instead, it’s an accomplished listen – still as deliciously dramatic as ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’, fleshing out their world more and more with daring, dashing songs of true depth.”
