The Most Uncomfortable Thriller of 2022 Finally Gets a Sequel Update Everyone Will Fall For

The survival thriller Fall was one of the most upsetting movie experiences audiences have had in recent years. Naturally, with the film earning critical and commercial acclaim, producers were quick to announce a sequel. Last we heard, the directors of Jigsaw, Michael and Peter Spierig, were attached to the project, but now the sequel has landed a possible release window. Fall 2 will be released in early 2026, as part of Lionsgate’s slate for next year.

As reported by Bloody Disgusting, the sequel to the most uncomfortable film of 2022 wrapped production in Thailand in early 2025, and release plans are moving forward. So far, only the main cast has been announced: Harriet Slater (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Tarot), Arsema Thomas (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story), and Tom Brittney (Greyhound, Back in Action).

The Spierig Brothers, also famous for their work in Predestination, Winchester and Daybreakers, will direct a script written by Scott Mann and Jonathan Frank, both writers for the original film. The Spierigs teased a few details, saying that the sequel will also revolve around “extreme heights”:

“We were huge fans of the first film and couldn’t wait to continue the journey. Our aim was to capture the same intensity that Scott Mann and his team established in the original, while adding new, layered characters who will connect with audiences as they endure extreme and terrifying heights.”

Mann also has producer duties (he directed 2022’s Fall) alongside Mark Lane, James Harris, Christian Mercuri, and David Haring, who are backing the film through their respective labels. Harris said the following when announcing the sequel’s release:

“We are delighted to be working with the extremely talented Spierig Brothers and this incredibly dynamic cast to introduce the next chapter in the Fall franchise. With Michael and Peter’s vision, we hope to bring a bigger and even more vertigo-inducing experience to audiences.”

Not only is Fall 2 seeing its release soon, but Fall 3 is still on track for development. Per the byline’s report, the third part in the trilogy will see Mann return as writer and director.

What Is ‘Fall 2’ About?

The following contains spoilers for Fall.Fall saw friends Becky and Hunter climbing an abandoned TV tower in the middle of the desert. Becky is still mourning the death of her husband, who died in a rock climbing incident, but Hunter believes the new adventure will be cathartic. The problem is that the structure is rusty and doesn’t hold the weight of the two women. When pieces start falling, they have to find a way to make it back to safety.

Produced on a budget of $3 million, the film made over $21 million at the box office. Upon release, it got a strong response from critics and audiences, and today it holds a 79% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience score registering the same rating.

Making a sequel to Fall couldn’t have been easy, as writers probably faced the challenge of constructing a story that used the same elements of tension, without putting two helpless victims at the top of a tower again. However, Bloody Disgusting is reporting a synopsis that sounds pretty exciting, and different from what we saw in the original. It also reveals how the two films are connected:

Overwhelmed by her sister Hunter’s death, Jax (Slater) connects with Luce (Thomas), Hunter’s fearless friend. To heal, they attempt the infamous plank walk of Mount Kwan in Thailand. After a sudden rockslide leaves them stranded on a fragile plank 3000 feet in the air, Jax must confront her deepest fears and fight for survival to find closure.
