The fate of the boiling isles is in her hands. Earlier today, Disney dropped the trailer for the final installment in The Owl House. The news is has left Twitter buzzing with anticipation, with everyone wishing for the premiere date of April 8th to come faster. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer below.
The trailer teases so much happening in such a small collection of clips. Luz is reunited with Eda and King, Belos is plotting his revenge, and the Collector is ready to play a ton of games. We see more familiar faces, whether they be turned to stone or in puppet form, and Luz is separated from her friends. There’s also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment where Eda and King go into monster-mode, glowing eyes and mighty roars included! The Owl House certainly is ramping up to go out with a bang!

The final season of The Owl House has been hitting hard despite only consisting of three specials. Luz and her friends had just returned to the Boiling Isles from the human realm to find out what happened to everyone else. Turns out the Collector has turned everyone into puppets in order to recreate all the adventures his new best friend, King, has been telling him. Meanwhile, Amity’s mom Odalia has been spared and is living as his servant. Eda and Lilith are also spared from being turned into puppets but are in hiding and trying to hatch a plan. King doesn’t want to hurt the Collector, because he knows deep down he’s just a kid. Belos comes back into the picture and takes over Raine’s puppet, then begins planting the seeds of doubt in the Collector, turning him against King.
The kids then reach the school, where it’s discovered that all the other Hexside children have been hiding out in the old building. But it’s being ruled over by Boscha and Kikimora. After a battle, the kids manage to convince the rest of the students to rise against Kikimura. Luz and her mom have a heart-to-heart, and Luz’s Palisman finally hatches! The little shifting creature is named Stringbean, and then the party sets off to find the Collector.

Ever since The Owl House premiered in 2020, it has resonated with so many. From LGBTQIA+ members, to book nerds, to witches of all kinds, this was a Disney show that was well beloved. This made it all the more shocking when it was announced that the third season was to be three specials rather than a full slate of episodes. According to series creator, Dana Terrace, Disney executives felt that the show “did not fit with the Disney brand.” Terrace elaborated in a Reddit post.
“At the end of the day, there are a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand and one day one of those guys decided TOH didn’t fit that “brand”. The story is serialized (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn’t fit this one guy’s tastes. That’s it! Ain’t that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is.”
Despite the sad outcome for The Owl House, it’s at least good that the team was able to finish off the series, even if it means some threads will forever be left open. Television history has a long list of shows that ended in cliffhangers, or open endings, because the network decided to not renew for another season. This is become a more common occurrence in the age of streaming. Thankfully, fans of The Owl House will get to see how it all ends. Will Luz and her friends save the day? Will her found family and old family come together? The finale will be available to watch in its entirety on Youtube, Saturday, April 8th, at 10:30PM PST.
