The Road Home Will Be an Animated Continuation of the TV Show

New details have come in about the animated Babylon 5 movie recently announced by the TV show’s creator J. Michael Straczynski. Last week, Straczynsky said that an animated Babylon 5 film was in the works, posting online an image of the script’s cover page along with the announcement. Now, new details have come to light, revealing the show’s title as Babylon 5: The Road Home. Per THR, it’s also been divulged that the film will be serving as a continuation of the original TV show. A first look photo has also been released of the titular space station in the new film, shown above.

The logline for the film reads, “Travel across the galaxy with John Sheridan as he unexpectedly finds himself transported through multiple timelines and alternate realities in a quest to find his way back home. Along the way he reunites with some familiar faces, while discovering cosmic new revelations about the history, purpose, and meaning of the Universe.”

Cast members have also been announced for the film, and yes, actor Bruce Boxleitner will return to voice John Sheridan after playing the character in the live-action TV show. Other returning cast members include Claudia Christian as Susan Ivanova, Peter Jurasik as Londo Mollari, Bill Mumy as Lennier, Tracy Scoggins as Elizabeth Lochley, and Patricia Tallman as Lyta Alexander. The Jeffrey Sinclair character, originally voiced by late actor Michael O’Hare, will be played by Paul Guyet.

Straczynski, who executive produces with Sam Register, wrote the screenplay. Matt Peters (Batman and Sueprman: Battle of the Super Sons) directs. Other new cast members include Anthony Hansen as Michael Garibaldi, Mara Junot as a reporter athe the Computer Voice, Phil LaMarr as Dr. Stephen Franklin, Piotr Michael as David Sheridan, Andrew Morgado as G’Kar, and Rebecca Riedy as Delenn. Guyet will also voice Zathras in addition to Jeffrey Sinclair.

Bablyon 5 originally aired for five seasons between 1994 and 1998. There were also follow-up TV movies along with an expansion into comic books, novels, and other mediums. The series is set aboard the titular space station, following the human military staff and the alien diplomats as they go about their business on Babylon 5. The series has remained popular since ending its run, and fans have been stoked about the reports that it was getting a continuation.

Meanwhile, there have also been plans made to completely reboot Babylon 5 as a new TV series, reimagining the original show with a different cast. That reboot has been slow to make progress, though the head of the CW, where the show is in the works, has teased that the series is still planned to be developed, noting how he’d “love to bring back that story in some shape or form.”

Babylon 5: The Road Home doesn’t yet have a release date set, but word is Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment will be dropping the animated movie sometime this summer.
