‘The Witcher’ Star Laurence Fishburne Gives a Massive Update on Season 5

Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation is gearing up for its final two seasons, and Laurence Fishburne (who joins the series as the complex vampire Regis) just gave a massive update on the show’s final season. Season 4 recently wrapped production, and is expected to be released sometime next year, with Liam Hemsworth stepping in for Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Netflix is jumping straight into production on Season 5 to bring the series to an end, and Fishburne is about to rejoin the production for the final time.

During an interview with Collider to promote his new movie The Amateur, Laurence Fishburne was asked about the status of The Witcher Season 5’s production. Fans already knew that Netflix had begun shooting the final season, thanks to some recently leaked set photos. While the production is ongoing, Fishburne has only recently rejoined his Season 4 castmates. “[Regarding] The Witcher, folks are going to have to just be patient with us,” Fishburne said. “We’re starting Season 5 now.” Don’t let anyone call Fishburne a lazy worker, as the actor revealed that once the junket for The Amateur is finished, he is flying straight off to film The Witcher’s final season:

“I will start when I leave here today. I go and I start filming.”

Fans of ‘The Witcher’ just can’t catch a break.

Fishburne joined The Witcher for its final two seasons alongside Liam Hemsworth. Both newcomers are playing two of the biggest roles in the series. Hemsworth is filling in for Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, who departed the series after Season 3 for unknown reasons. Fans got their first look at Hemsworth in the white wig in a brief promo released last year. Meanwhile, Fishburne will portray one of Geralt’s closest and most powerful allies, the humanist vampire Regis. Leaked set photos from Season 4’s production revealed Fishburne in costume as the character. However, we will have to wait for the first trailer to see how Regis has been brought to life on screen.

Who Is Regis in ‘The Witcher’?

Despite being introduced over halfway into Andrzej Sapkowski’s series of novels, Regis quickly became a fan favorite character due to his quick-wit, wisdom, and complex personality. First introduced in Baptism of Fire, Regis joins Geralt on his quest to find Ciri, who is believed to be held prisoner in Nilfgaard.

In the books and CDProjektRed’s video game series, Regis is a Higher Vampire, one of the most powerful creatures on The Continent. But, as readers learn throughout the novels, Regis has sworn of human blood. When he was first transformed, he felt peer pressure to fit in with the rest of his species by ransacking villages and killing people, and was a lightweight when it came to blood consumption. As a result, he swore off blood, and became a herbalist who healed those in need.

Season 4 of The Witcher hasn’t been given a release date yet. With production wrapped, expect a trailer or a new teaser to drop in the coming weeks.
