There’s a literal energetic pause

Lana Del Rey has revealed why she’s keeping fans waiting for her upcoming country album ‘Lasso’.

Earlier this year, the singer announced her 10th studio album, which she confirmed will see her venture into country, and is being made alongside both regular collaborator, producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff and country music maker Luke Laird.

Since then, fans have been anxiously awaiting information on the LP. Now, in a new interview with People, Del Rey has said she’s following her instincts after feeling a “literal energetic pause” on the project.

“I think all the songs have been Americana and I want to wait to see what the musical atmosphere feels like,” she told the publication. “‘Cause I don’t usually feel like I need a pause in the creation process, but if there’s a literal energetic pause that almost feels like physical, then I have to wait and I don’t know why.”

She went on to say “I’ll have to see if it’s because of something someone’s done or because it’s going to take a turn.”

When asked if there’s an official release date for the project as of yet, the ‘Born To Die’ singer said: “We’ll see. But the songs I have, I love, so I don’t want to turn it into something that’s half cooked, even if it’s super stripped back. I want it to be what it was supposed to be.”

Earlier this year, the singer spoke to NME about the album, suggesting that the lyrics might be lighter than her more recent output. “I’ve maybe less to say in terms of any self-revealing things like on ‘Tunnel’ or ‘Blue Bannisters’ or ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’, and just more melodic,” she said. “Maybe more American Songbook style?”

She also opened up about a potential sense of vindication around the new project. “Maybe three years ago there would have been a sense of vindication, but now it just feels playful. I don’t know why,” she explained, looking at her recent successes. “If you hang in long enough, it just feels easy. There’s no vindication, no nothing – I’m just kind of happy to be here.  It’s easy-going in that way.”

In other news, Del Rey married alligator tour boat guide Jeremy Dufren earlier this month. It also reported that the licence noted Los Angeles pastor Judah Smith – who appears on the singer’s ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’ track ‘Judah Smith Interlude’, was the officiant of the wedding.
