As one of the biggest adrenaline junkies in Hollywood, the question of where Tom Cruise can get his next kicks after Top-Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’s death-defying stunts seems to be by going out of this world, literally. The action star is set to head to the stars to make his next movie project, with part of the movie’s finale expected to take place on and outside of the International Space Station. If it all goes as planned, then Cruise will become the first civilian to do a spacewalk of this kind.
Tom Cruise has had quite a year, having watched Top Gun: Maverick smashing numerous records as it became the highest grossing movie of the year and almost of the last three years. In addition to that, he has been filming for his next and allegedly final outing as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 7 & 8, and while you would think the 60-year-old might want to start taking it easy, it seems that he is instead planning to push himself to new heights.

Having already gained himself qualifications in skydiving, as a helicopter and plane pilot, and pushed himself further than many actors would ever dream of going to make a movie as dramatic and real as it can be, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairperson Donna Langley has told the BBC that Cruise could be about to take his daredevil ways even further for a potential new role. She said:
“Tom Cruise is taking us to space. He’s taking the world to space. That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom, that does contemplate him doing just that. Taking a rocket up to the space station and shooting and hopefully being the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”

Will Tom Cruise Really Be The First Civilian to Shoot a Movie in Space?
According to reports, Cruise’s potential trip out of the Earth’s atmosphere would be via a team-up with Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, which has been responsible for numerous crewed missions to the ISS. While the new project is very much only in the development stages, but when it comes to this kind of thing, Tom Cruise is one of those people who tends to set their sights on something and not let go until they have been satisfied.
With the project already having been given a seal of approval by former NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstein, for its potential to instigate interest in a space engineering for a whole new generation, and the idea of this being a unique boundary-breaking opportunity to be the first Hollywood movie to actually film in space, it would be a foolish person that would bet against Tom Cruise taking his first steps into space sometime in the not too distant future.
For now, Top Gun: Maverick is now doing big business on the small screen after coming to home video and on-demand channels, and all eyes are now turning to Cruise’s next big screen outing in Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part 1 which arrives in theaters on July 7, 2023.
