‘Warfare’ Hailed as “Brutal” & “Real” as It Climbs Prime Video Chart

Prime Video subscribers are obsessed with a new action movie that was recently added to the streaming service. Prime is already home to some phenomenal action films and shows, including Reacher, The Accountant, and many of Jason Statham’s flicks. But this film puts them all to shame with its gruesome and immersive depiction of violence and war. The movie was released in early 2025 and was a smash hit with critics and audiences during its theatrical run. Many are even calling for it to earn Oscar nominations. While it flopped in theaters, grossing just $32 million worldwide, the critical reception was enough to make it a hit on streaming, as the movie boasts a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Prime Video users are obsessed with the action film, and if you haven’t watched it yet, we’ve just found your plans for tonight.

If you haven’t guessed by now, the movie in question is Warfare. Released in April 2025, it is Alex Garland’s second brutal action film, following 2024’s Civil War. Warfare is the fourth most popular movie on Prime Video this week, behind Heads of State, The Accountant 2, and Anyone But You, in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively. Garland co-directed the film with Ray Mendoza, a former Navy SEAL turned filmmaker. Distributed by A24, Warfare features a star-studded cast, including MCU stars Will Poulter and Joseph Quinn, Shogun’s Cosmo Jarvis, Heartstopper’s Kit Connor, and Michael Gandolfini, who played a young Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark.

Netflix’s Hit Action Franchise Dominates the Streaming Chart Following Sequel’s Release

Netflix’s eagerly anticipated action sequel has pushed one of its biggest franchises back into the streaming chart.

Set during the Iraq War, the film follows a squad of Navy SEALs attempting to complete a surveillance mission. But when their location is discovered, they’re descended upon by a violent wave of insurgents. The official synopsis reads:

“Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare and brotherhood, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.”

What Viewers Are Saying About ‘Warfare’

A24

Audiences were as impressed with Garland and Mendoza’s Warfare as critics were. The film boasts an equally strong 93% audience rating, and the recent reactions from the film’s time on Prime Video explain why users are so obsessed with Warfare. “Brutal depiction of war. Unnerving and very intense. Not a lot of replay value, but definitely worth watching,” wrote Jey D. Dylan M held similar praise, writing:

“This film was something to really bring you into the situation. The audio brought it to life. The gunshots and explosions felt so real. The visuals and the movement of the soldiers felt as if you were in the situation as well.”

Alex Garland followed up Warfare by penning the screenplay for 28 Years Later. Directed by Danny Boyle, the movie is currently screening in theaters, and it’s receiving similarly impressive reviews and reactions from critics and audiences.
