Prime Video seemed to be completely invested in bringing several big fantasy franchises to life when they commissioned both The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and The Wheel of Time. It therefore came as a huge shock when The Wheel of Time was not renewed for a fourth season, and it seems like the thousands of fans hoping the series will be picked up by another streamer may have to prepare themselves for the worst, according to a new report.
Based on the novels by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time debuted on Prime Video in 2021 to reasonable enough reviews, but it seems that over the course of its three seasons it did not do enough for Prime Video to want to continue pumping money into what is a costly project. This was the exact reason Prime Video gave for the cancellation, saying it was a “strictly monetary” decision.

To say that fans are disappointed would be an understatement.
In a new report from TVLine, fans hopes that the series could end up being passed onto another streamer have taken a hit. According to a “well-placed source” the high-profile fantasy saga “is not being shopped after being canceled at Prime Video.” This comes as another blow to those who have become used to seeing the likes of Netflix step in and take over the reins of popular scrapped shows such as Manifest and Lucifer.
‘Wheel of Time’ Fans Have Spoken With a Growing Petition
Prime Video
The cancelation of any series with a strong following can instantly lead to the creation of an online petition requesting – or in some cases demanding – that a studio or streamer continue the series, whatever the cost. On occasion, this can be enough to spur someone into action if numbers get high enough, and so far, The Wheel of Time GoFundMe petition has gained around 123,000 and the group behind it has raised $16,000 in less than two weeks.
In the petition, the creator says, “Our mission is to help bring The Wheel of Time television series–a successful, groundbreaking, fantasy drama hailed as “A Triumph” and “The Best Fantasy Show of 2025”–back for a fourth season and beyond.” The money is being raised with an aim of putting the campaign to save the show onto digital billboards in New York, Los Angeles, and London, but whether such a display of love for the series would make much difference to what seems to be a very firm stance by Prime Video seems doubtful.
However, just as there are no guarantees that a show will be renewed, it is never certain that a cancelation will stick either. There are so many streamers looking for content that any series dropped from one could be picked up by another if there seems to be an audience hungry enough for more. The Wheel of Time certainly has a strong wave of support behind it, but whether it is enough to strong-arm someone into taking on the expensive project seems more of a fantasy than anything seen in the show right now.
