South Park Assembles Full Orchestra for New Rendition of ‘Kyle’s Mom’ Song

The creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are celebrating the show’s upcoming 25th season premiere in a fun way that calls back to the past. They’ve gathered a group of talented Broadway stars, including professional singers and a 30-piece orchestra, to perform a new rendition of the classic South Park song “Kyle’s Mom’s a B*tch.” The results were shared by Comedy Central in a video posted online and it even includes an appearance from Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, and Stan. You can watch the video below.

Broadway veteran Stephen Oremus arranged the rendition. It features singers Nikki Renee Daniels, Tamar Greene, Jeff Kready, and Elizabeth Stanley. Oremus spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about how thrilling it was to work on this new take on the popular song.

“I was thrilled to get to reimagine these South Park classics in a more traditional orchestral concert setting,” Oremus says. “It was so much fun getting to blow them up and give them such proper classical renditions. I called some of the best musicians and singers I knew — friends and colleagues who I have worked with on Broadway and TV, and we got to make music and dress up and laugh our asses off for a few days.”

South Park executive producer Anne Garefino adds, “We worked with Stephen on The Book of Mormon. [Parker and Stone] completely trust him with their work. For the 25th season, we thought it would be fun to celebrate the music of South Park. This is just the beginning.”

The “Kyle’s Mom” song goes all the way back to the first season of South Park when it was featured in the holiday-themed episode “Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo” in 1997. It was later sung again by Eric Cartman in a more extravagant manner in the 1999 movie South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. More recently, an instrumental version of the iconic song made a special appearance in the video game South Park: The Fractured but Whole, which was released in 2017.

South Park Will Be Sticking Around For a While

Paramount+

It was just recently announced that Comedy Central is finally bringing back South Park with a 25th season, featuring the return of weekly episodes. While the season consists of six episodes, the South Park team has also been developing special “movies” that stream separately on Paramount+, so South Park content will continue to be made on a frequent basis. It’s part of the team’s deal that renewed South Park on Comedy Central through 2027 and includes 14 exclusive Paramount+ projects.

“When we came to ViacomCBS with a different way to produce the show during the pandemic, Chris (McCarthy), Nina (Diaz), Keyes (Hill-Edgar) and Tanya (Giles) were immediately supportive and enabled us to try something new that turned out to be really well received,” Parker and Stone said in a statement when the renewal was first announced. “We can’t wait to get back to doing traditional South Park episodes but now we can also try out new formats. It’s great to have partners who will always take a chance with us.”

“Comedy Central has been our home for 25 years and we’re really happy that they’ve made a commitment to us for the next 75 years,” they added.

Season 25 of South Park will premiere on Comedy Central on Feb. 2, 2022.

14 New South Park Movies Are Coming to Paramount+, Series Gets Renewed Through 2027

South Park will be on the air until at least 2027 with 14 original movies streaming separately on Paramount+ as part of a new deal with the creators and ViacomCBS.
