Cheslie Kryst, Extra Correspondent and Miss USA 2019, Dies at 30

More sad news is coming in as Extra correspondent Cheslie Kryst has reportedly died. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kryst was found dead at 7:05 a.m. on Sunday morning on the sidewalk outside of the Orion Condominium building in Manhattan where she’d been living. The New York Police Department has ruled her passing a suicide and it is believed she willingly jumped from several stories up to her death. She was 30 years old.

“In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie,” a statement from Kryst’s family reads. “Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined. Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on Extra. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague – we know her impact will live on.”

Another statement from Extra, where Kryst had been working as a corresponded, adds: “Our hearts are broken. Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.”

Shortly before her death on Sunday, the Extra correspondent posted an image of herself on Instagram. Including a heart emoji, she wrote, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”

The previous day, Kryst had shared an image to her Instagram Stories congratulating Morgan Romano for being crowned Miss North Carolina USA along with Gabby Ortega for being crowned Miss Teen North Carolina USA on Jan. 29.

Along with her work on Extra, Kryst was also known for being crowned Miss USA in 2019. She had also made several TV appearances over the last several years. Kryst was a panelist on Black Girl Beauty and guested on the talk shows The Kelly Clarkson Show, Live With Kelly and Ryan, and The Talk. She also appeared as Miss USA in Ava DuVernay and Colin Kaepernick’s documentary Colin in Black and White.
