Ewan McGregor is Ready for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 on Disney+

Star Wars staple Ewan McGregor is ready for a second series of the upcoming Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. While the first season of the Star Wars series has yet to debut (the first episode will land on the streaming service tomorrow) McGregor has already begun to look to the future. Despite the plan always being for Obi-Wan Kenobi to be a limited series, the actor has now stated that he would love to do more.

“Well, at the moment, we’re just doing the six episodes. It was very much set up and made to be a limited series. So, that’s how it stands at the moment. Listen, if it does very well and Disney are excited about the prospect of doing another one … I loved doing it. I loved working with Deborah Chow. I loved working with the new technology. And I thought our scripts were really good.”

Considering that Star Wars fans have been asking for an Obi-Wan centered spinoff for years, and with the series bringing back both Ewan McGregor as the Jedi Master and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi will surely be one of the most popular series released on Disney+. If so, fans could be sitting down to further adventures with the iconic character in the future, with McGregor saying to Collider that he’d be “totally up for doing more.”

“And I feel like the experience of doing it with the crew who were so passionate about it. So many Star Wars fans in the crew of Star Wars projects nowadays that it makes the experience really exciting. So, I’d be totally up for doing more. But I can guarantee, at the moment, it’s just a standalone thing.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi Will Soon Premiere on Disney+

Obi-Wan Kenobi picks up ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, in which the Jedi Order were destroyed by Order 66 and his former apprentice Anakin Skywalker became the Sith Lord Darth Vader. The exiled Jedi master is now watching over Vader’s son Luke Skywalker on Tatooine while in hiding and living a solitary life. But, his past has begun to catch up with him, as Darth Vader has set up the Sith Inquisitors program, a group of Dark Side Force users, to hunt down any Jedi who survived Order 66.

Director Deborah Chow has teased the insular story telling of the series, comparing it to the likes of comic book outings Joker and Logan. “I think I was most excited about getting the opportunity to do a character-driven story,” she said. “You know, in a similar way—you know, obviously, it’s a different tone, but something like Joker [and] Logan, where you take one character out of a big franchise, and then you really have the time and you go a lot deeper with the characters. So that to me seemed really exciting to do in Star Wars.”

Directed by Deborah Chow, with Joby Harold serving as showrunner, Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, with both reprising their roles as Owen Lars and Beru Whitesun Lars. Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Kumail Nanjiani, and Sung Kang will also star alongside Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, with O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine and Rory Ross have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to premiere on May 27, 2022, and will run for six episodes, concluding on June 22.
