Silo Season 3 Episode 1 Handles Two Mysteries in Two Timelines in Style

It’s not always easy to manage two mysteries in two different timelines, but Silo Season 3 had to take on that risk.

There are storylines in the second Wool book by Hugh Howey that explain in detail the Founders and the AI system that Bernard seemed to be controlled by throughout the first two seasons of the series.

All of that has to be explained in the TV series, and it has to be done by showing us and not telling us. That means a dual-timeline story.

Mysteries That Are Connected Across Time

Silo Season 3 Episode 1 wastes no time in getting to the meat of the story, and I appreciate that.

We don’t need a huge reminder of everything that happened at the end of Silo Season 2. That’s what a rewatch is for!

There are still mentions when necessary, such as running through the names of some of those involved in the rebellion and Bernard entering the fiery room.

Other reminders surface as Juliette begins to remember the truth.

She has flashes of being in that room with Bernard, and she starts to remember the crowbar that she used to get back into her silo.

For the most part, though, the focus remains on the mystery: on why Juliette doesn’t remember anything and whether those memories will ever come back.

At first, the timeline with Daniel and his sister doesn’t seem to fit with the current arc, but just give it time.

After the initial attack, Charlotte Keene has no idea who her own brother is.

We know that she’s suffered a TBI, but does that really account for the full memory loss? Okay, yes, it could, but there is something much bigger going on.

As the communication system in her jet went down, she touched a black, slimy liquid that contained something. It’s likely that this has something to do with her memory loss.

And this takes us back to Juliette’s mystery in the current timeline. She has memory loss because someone wants her to have it.

Camille is implanting memories, and we know from the trailer for Silo Season 3 that the pills are involved.

Is whatever was in the jet in those pills? Are these two mysteries connected across the timelines? It certainly seems that way!

Camille and Robert Are Desperate to Hold Onto Power

Both Camille and Robert spent Silo Season 2 with one foot on either side of the rebellion, making sure they were on the right side of history when it all played out.

It’s worked in their favor, and now they get to run the show.

They’re desperate to hold on to power, and the only way to do that is by suppressing the rebellion still brewing.

How far are they willing to go for that, and what was Robert’s plan by taking Juliette to the cleaning doors as he explained what happened to Bernard?

Camille is more than willing to follow the AI’s instructions just to survive

Of course, she will now know what happens if she doesn’t, and she’s probably told Robert something, but there isn’t much in the way of guilt by planting memories and upping the memory suppressant drug dosage.

I wanted to root for the two of them to switch sides and help Juliette, but now I’m ready to see them taken down as well.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and this is a dangerous cycle in the silo.

However, there’s only so much that they can do to hold onto that power, as those who seek the truth still fight.

It’s going to take more than making Juliette the mayor to quash this attack from those who now know a little more of the truth.

And unfortunately for Camille and Robert, Juliette is willing to listen to the rebel group.

I do wish the camera were on the note for a little longer. I had to pause and try to read it, because it just wasn’t steady for long enough without it, but that’s just a minor complaint.

What I do appreciate is that most people realize Juliette is being used.

They don’t blame her, but they are hurt that she doesn’t remember them. Now they just want to help her.

Silo Season 3 starts out the hour by showcasing this well. Shirley doesn’t even want to be around Juliette because of how hurt she is, and Knox is just trying his best to deal with it all.

Then you’ve got Hank, who is so apologetic about everything that happened to Juliette’s dad at the end of Silo Season 2.

Juliette wants to remember, though, and it’s such a human and natural thing to want. It’s also in Juliette’s nature to question something that seems a little too perfectly placed.

Even without flashes, not having any memories of who you were before is sure to be frustrating.

Think about when you forget something just in your day-to-day life and how much you can end up striving to remember it. How do you feel when the memories of a night out or a dream are just out of your reach?

Juliette has her whole life as a black hole, and she will take risks to remember. She needs to remember.

At least for Juliette, she has a chance. Someone knows the truth and has managed to get a message to her.

In the past, Charlotte is stuck without memories. Nobody really knows what happened. At least, that’s the way it seems, so she has a much longer journey to help her remember.

Silo Season 3 has got off to a strong start, and we’ve not even got to see how Solo and his young crew are doing after the events of Season 2. Everything is still up for grabs over there.

This is where we love to hear from you!
Your comments help keep independent journalism alive, but that’s not the only reason we love hearing your thoughts. We love to chat about all things Silo, so share your opinions on the premiere and what you hope to see as the season gets underway.
