Scarlett Johansson Voted Best Hero at MTV Movie & TV Awards

The fans have spoken, and Scarlett Johansson is this year’s Best Hero at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. This year, the 30th annual ceremony was hosted by Vanessa Hudgens and Tayshia Adams. Black Widow managed to grab two nominations, and this includes the Best Hero nomination for Johansson along with “Black Widow vs. Widows” scene for Best Fight.

Best Fight ultimately went to “Cassie vs. Maddy” for Euphoria, but it was still a great night for Johansson. She snagged the win in the Best Hero category, and this was no easy feat, as it meant overcoming some other very popular candidates. Also nominated for Best Hero were Daniel Craig for No Time to Die, Oscar Isaac for Moon Knight, Simu Liu for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Tom Holland for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Black Widow served as a prequel film that explored more of Natasha Romanoff’s origin story following her fate in Avengers: Endgame. Directed by Cate Shortland, the movie picks up shortly after Captain America: Civil War with Romanoff going on the run. The movie also starred Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, Olga Kurylenko, William Hurt, and Rachel Weisz. It also served as a send-off for Johansson in that role, who’d finally gotten her own solo film after debuting in the MCU in 2010’s Iron Man 2.

Have We Seen the Last of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow?

Marvel Studios

With Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson sees the movie as the end of an era and a perfect way to cap off her time in the MCU. She previously explained in a Good Morning America interview that she will miss all of the good times she has had working on Marvel movies but simply feels that her character’s storyline had run its course.

“I’ve had an incredible decade working with my Marvel family,” she said. “I’m going to miss not seeing them every 18 months or two years, like those kind of milestones I always really look forward to.”

She added, “But I feel really proud of this film and I think it’s great to go out on a high note. This movie is so different from any other Marvel film that we’ve done so far, so yeah… like I said, it’s bittersweet.”

Meanwhile, the MCU had a pretty good night outside of Johansson’s win for Best Hero. Spider-Man: No Way Home also won the Best Movie award, and its lead star Tom Holland got the win for Best Performance in a Movie. With the recent success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has been nothing short of massive, there was a good chance that Holland would have also won the Best Hero award, which he was nominated for alongside Johansson. But it was Johansson who the fans enjoyed above all else, at least with the MTV crowd.
