After a rollercoaster of emotions in Season 1, Our Flag Means Death is returning with a bang, as seen in the newly released trailer for Season 2. Fans are eagerly waiting to set sail once again with Stede, Blackbeard, and their eccentric crews after a highly dramatic ending of the first season. The pirates seem to be on a rampage, pilfering and pillaging with more intensity in this upcoming season. The highly anticipated trailer has been released by Max after teasing fans with a set of images. You can check it out below:

Loosely inspired by the true events of Stede Bonnet’s life, Our Flag Means Death features Rhys Darby in the role of Stede, a wealthy man who swaps his mundane land life for the thrilling escapades of a pirate. Despite becoming a captain of his own ship, Stede struggles to win the respect of his crew.

His luck changes dramatically when he crosses paths with the infamous pirate Blackbeard, portrayed by Taika Waititi. This unexpected encounter blossoms into a friendship and, perhaps, a romantic relationship. However, the previous season left viewers on a cliffhanger as Blackbeard, feeling betrayed by Stede, lashes out on some of Stede’s crew and reverts back to his sinister ways.

The trailer, set against the backdrop of Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones,” opens with a despondent Stede tossing a message in a bottle into the ocean, reaffirming his love for Ed (Blackbeard). Conversely, a similarly heartbroken Blackbeard resorts to a more belligerent approach, although it is evident that he longs for Stede.

As the trailer unfolds, both characters grapple with their emotions in their own distinctive ways. Stede attempts to persuade others of Blackbeard’s inherent goodness, while Blackbeard leaves a trail of destruction wherever he goes. Despite the emotional agony, the forthcoming season is forecasted to be full of exhilarating moments, featuring a combination of new and returning characters contributing to the commotion on the open ocean.

The creative force behind Our Flag Means Death includes David Jenkins, who donned the hats of creator, showrunner, executive producer, and director for the first two episodes of Season 2. The executive producer team also includes Taika Waititi, Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein, and Antoine Douaihy. The returning cast comprises Vico Ortiz, Samson Kayo, Ewen Bremmer, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Nat Faxon, Samba Schutte, and Leslie Jones. New additions to the cast include Ruibo Qian, Madeleine Sami, Anapela Polataivao, and Erroll Shand in recurring roles, and Minnie Driver and Bronson Pinchot as guest stars.

Our Flag Means Death Season 2 is set to premiere with its first three episodes on Thursday, October 5, on Max. The upcoming episodes will be released weekly, culminating in the season’s final episode on October 26.
