NFL icon Tom Brady is getting the biopic treatment courtesy of the writing duo behind the Academy Award-winning sports drama The Fighter. As per a report by Deadline, the Tom Brady limited series, titled The Patriot Way, will be penned by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson and will detail the athlete’s career as a quarterback for the New England Patriots.
The project will use the bestselling 2018 book 12: The Inside Story of Tom Brady’s Fight for Redemption by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge as inspiration, and “chronicles Brady’s improbable rise from sixth-round NFL draft pick to his half-dozen Super Bowl wins with the Patriots, the Aaron Hernandez, Spygate and Deflategate scandals and Brady’s battle of wills with head coach Bill Belichick.”
You can read a joint statement from Tamasy and Johnson below:
“The New England Patriots dominated the professional sports landscape for 20 years. Our series will bring the audience inside Gillette Stadium, better known as Fortress Foxboro, to shed new light on the thrilling, historic come-from-behind victories; the dark side of success; and building a culture of winning at all costs.”
Sherman and Wedge also released a statement, calling The Patriot Way “a rich, character-driven story.”
“As journalists, we had a front-row seat for all the incredible drama that has unfolded both before and after the New England Patriots won their first super bowl [in 2001]. It’s a rich, character-driven story that probably will not be duplicated in our lifetime.”
The filmmaker behind The Patriot Way will not need to seek any image rights for the project as Brady and the New England Patriots are public figures, meaning “this allows us the freedom to tell the story without a filter.” Tom Brady himself is not involved in the development of the limited series.

Who Could Play Tom Brady in The Patriot Way?
Disney
Thanks to his incredible career, during which he achieved seven Super Bowl victories, Tom Brady is now regarded not only as the greatest quarterback of all time, but one of the greatest players in NFL history. Making him quite a recognizable figure.
So, while we await official casting announcements for The Patriot Way, fans have taken to social media to wonder who could slip into the uniform and portray Tom Brady in the series.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Brady from back in 2018, Brady himself named The Fighter star Mark Wahlberg as the actor he would like to see play him should any sort of biopic materialize.
“I’m going with Mark Wahlberg. The Boston legend, Dorchester – one of the ‘grind it out’ kinda guys. So he’d be my choice.”
Wahlberg however has his sights set on a different role, with the actor himself saying last year that he could see himself starring in any future Brady biopic as New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. After suggesting himself as Brady’s uncle, Wahlberg said…
“I would love to play [New England Patriots head coach] Bill Belichick.”
