A new trailer from Prime Video showcasing its upcoming releases in 2024 reveals a look at Jake Gyllenhaal in action in the Road House remake. Based on the 1989 film starring the late Patrick Swayze, Road House will feature Gyllenhaal as an ex-UFC fighter, and is set in Florida. Major plot details remain under wraps at this time, but the film is expected to closely follow the premise of the original movie.
In the Prime Video trailer, Gyllenhaal can be seen sporting a muscular physique in one scene, while in another he’s shown battling a group of men using his martial arts skills. Besides Road House, the trailer from Prime Video also features a look at some other new projects that will be seen in 2024, including the fantasy-comedy, Ricky Stanicky, starring Zac Efron and John Cena, Anne Hathaway’s new project, The Idea of You, and the Jennifer Lopez documentary, This Is Me…Now: The Film. Also included are scenes from the new Fallout series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Expats, and The Boys, which will be returning for a fourth season.

Road House Remake Will Not Be Released Theatrically
Initially, the remake of Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal was thought to be a theatrical release, but recent reports indicated that the film would be moving to streaming following the dismissal of producer Joel Silver. There were questions about whether it would be released on MGM+, or Prime Video, but with the release of the new trailer, it’s become obvious that the project will release on Prime Video, with a release date set for March 21, 2024.
The chaotic production saw Silver fired from the project after reportedly “berating” the Head of Theatrical and Streaming Film for Amazon, Courtenay Valenti, something Silver’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, contradicted in a recent statement:
“As Amazon readily admits, Joel Silver completed all of his services on Road House and was not relieved of his duties, terminated or fired from his services on Road House. He finished the film and did an excellent job. With respect to ‘Play Dirty,’ as agreed to by Amazon, Joel was in no way terminated with or for cause on that picture. None of this is in dispute. To say he was fired is irresponsible and defamatory.”
The Road House remake will also mark the feature film debut of UFC star, Conor McGregor, who plays a key role in the movie. While the scope of his character has yet to be revealed, McGregor is said to have enjoyed his time on set, and had high praise for Jake Gyllenhaal. Speaking with the Daily Mail, Conor McGregor had this to say about his Road House co-star:
“Great man. Great guy. He’s very patient with me, helpful. We shot some good stuff for the movie and can’t wait to see it come to fruition.”
In addition to Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor, Road House will also feature Jessica Williams (Fantastic Beasts), Daniela Melchior (Fast X), Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die), and J.D. Pardo (Mayans M.C.), among others. As per the official synopsis, Road House sees “an ex-UFC middleweight fighter end up working at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys where things are not as they seem.” It will be available to stream on Prime Video beginning March 21, 2024.
