Kick-Ass and Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn has revealed some intriguing details about a new action movie that he is set to produce. Starring MCU and Extraction star Chris Hemsworth alongside Oscar winner Sam Rockwell, the currently untitled action flick will break some “world records” and reinvent the genre, according to Vaughn. Describing the project as “a very, very special movie” that will “have the same sort of impact as ‘Kick-Ass’ did,” while speaking with Josh Horowitz, Vaughn revealed that the movie is being written and directed by his stunt team and will break “some world records in the process.”

“I’ve been producing a very, very special movie. I’m very excited about it. I just saw a half-an-hour cut together. This will have the same sort of impact as ‘Kick-Ass’ did. And I can’t talk too much about it yet. You ask Sam Rockwell, and he just gives everything away in an interview; we’re like, ‘Sam, we’re under contract; you’re not allowed to speak about that.’ And he’s like ‘what?’ And then… But it is a movie; I can say it is a movie that is written, directed, and starring my stunt team. It is a film like no movie that has ever been made. And it’s also got Chris Hemsworth and Sam Rockwell in it. Plus some other very, very interesting cameos.”

While details of the plot remain entirely under wraps, Vaughn does declare that the movie will be “reinventing an action movie,” and features “56 action sequences that are incredible” as well as being both “funny” and “original.”

“And it’s reinventing an action movie. Because it is a film where it is pretty extraordinary watching these stunt guys as they are acting a doing stunts at the same time, and you’re not having to hide anything.”

So far, it sounds so good.

Vaughn went on to heap praise on stunt performers, calling them “real superheroes.” Hemsworth has had experience working with a stuntman-turned-director in Extraction and Extraction 2’s Sam Hargrave, with the pair now all set to return for a third outing.

“Stuntmen are the real superheroes, literally…And for some reason stuntmen are not given the due respect that they deserve and this movie…I just cannot tell you how excited and proud I am of these guys.”

Sam Rockwell can currently be seen strutting his action hero stuff in Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy, Argylle. Directed and produced by Matthew Vaughn from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs, Argylle begins when Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, finds herself dragged into real-life action when the plots of her fictional books – which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate – begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization.

Starring Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Ariana DeBose, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella, and Samuel L. Jackson, Argylle is out now in theaters and will land on Apple TV+ at a later date.
