Michael Cera claims Ben Affleck was supposed to appear in Barbie’s big brouhaha. Remember when Allan (Cera) hops out of the bright-pink convertible and engages in fisticuffs in front of Gloria (America Ferrera) and Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt)? Well, according to Cera, that was supposed to be Affleck busting heads in the scene rather than Allan. Cera said in an interview with the A.V. Club:
I wasn’t even supposed to fight in the movie. Am I allowed to say what it was supposed to be? It was supposed to be Ben Affleck. Right? Am I allowed to say that? I think Ben wanted to do it, but he was directing his movie [Air].
Cera added:
“They’re like, ‘Okay, Ben’s out, something has to happen here. So, you’re gonna fight them.’ So, I had to jump in with the stunt team. I had just gotten over COVID, and they had me training. And I almost died just doing the warm-up! I had to lay down in my trailer, and they sent the nurse to see me. And I was sent home. So, then we had a second rehearsal, and I learned it. That’s the story basically.”
As Sasha convinces her mom that Barbieland, which has since been dubbed Kendom, needs saving, Allan proceeds to choke out one of the construction workers with the handle of a shovel. As the man passes out and dies — yes, he is killed — Allan taunts his frightened opponents by saying:
Okay, you want some more Allan?!

Warner Bros. Pictures
As it turns out, the one and only Allan (Cera) could have easily been wanted for murder following his mind-blowing battle in Barbie. During his fight scene with the construction crew, it first appears that Allan merely renders his opponent unconscious with the shovel. But, in reality, Allan kills him! Cera reflected on the inexplicable and jaw-dropping moment in the same interview:
That was never part of Allan’s journey. In the rehearsal, we did the thing where I murder the guy with the shovel, and it was just a joke. And we were like ‘Greta’s not going to let me murder someone in the movie.’ And it’s in the movie!

And just like star Margot Robbie knew Barbie would make a billion dollars while pitching the film to Warner Bros., Cera knew just how “good” the bright-pink blockbuster was going to be. Cera also told the A.V. Club:
“I’ve never been so in complete disbelief about the production. I was like, ‘How much, how much money is this costing?’ I just couldn’t believe everything I was seeing. And then Greta being so calm and exuberant and inventive in the eye of a production that side was like, completely staggering to me. I was like, ‘Okay, this is going to be good. She knows what she’s doing.’”
