As Halloween quickly approaches, every streaming service is gearing up to provide plenty of spooky entertainment for its subscribers. Peacock is no different, and the scary films slated to hit the platform next month are all but certain to be a must-watch for many viewers. However, while a plethora of horror films are ready to arrive in the coming weeks, plenty of movies in various other genres will be available throughout October.
Along with a slew of horror flicks, the streaming platform also has a popular children’s movie scheduled for release, as well as an enduring coming-of-age story viewers won’t want to skip. No matter the genre of movie Peacock subscribers want to watch, the streaming service has them covered all month long. Whether audiences prefer to lean into the Halloween holiday or steer clear of anything they deem too frightening, they’re bound to find something for either situation.
The Mouse Trap
Stream on Oct. 1
The Mouse Trap is a horror comedy that reimagines Walt Disney’s iconic mouse from the 1928 animated short film Steamboat Willie. Much like the depiction of Winnie the Pooh in 2023’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, The Mouse Trap features the first appearance of Mickey Mouse’s Steamboat Willie iteration following the emblematic character’s entrance into the public domain.
The movie follows Alex (Sophie McIntosh) and her friends on the night of her 21st birthday. Stuck working the late shift at the arcade, her friends decide to surprise her. However, their plans turn sour when a crazed killer dressed as Mickey Mouse embarks on a murderous rampage. As he begins to pick them off one by one, Alex must fight to survive. The Mouse Trap is streaming on Oct. 1.
Pride + Prejudice + Zombies
Stream on Oct. 1
Based on the 2009 Seth Grahame-Smith novel of the same name, Pride + Prejudice + Zombies is an action horror comedy that parodies the 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The film follows Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) and her sisters in 19th-century England as they battle a growing population of zombies while simultaneously navigating potential suitors. A master of martial arts and weaponry, Elizabeth encounters Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley), an arrogant but handsome gentleman with whom she reluctantly joins forces to fight the undead roaming the English countryside. While Elizabeth seemingly loathes Mr. Darcy, she respects his skills as a fighter, which opens the door for a potential romance between the two as they work together to save the entire country before it’s overtaken by zombies.
Blackwater Lane
Stream on Oct. 4
Blackwater Lane is a supernatural horror that follows a woman named Cass Anderson (Minka Kelly) who is led to question her own reality. One night, while driving home, she passes a stranded motorist who is later revealed to have been murdered. As if such a discovery wasn’t creepy enough, she begins to believe she might be the killer’s next victim following a series of terrifying events at her own home.
However, her husband, Matthew (Dermot Mulroney), isn’t so sure she’s thinking clearly and questions whether the pills she’s taking are actually causing vivid hallucinations. Blackwater Lane is streaming on Oct. 4.
Didi
Stream on Oct. 4
Didi is a coming-of-age comedy about an impressionable 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy named Chris (Izaac Wang). The film takes place in 2008 during the final days of summer. Caught between his own interests and the expectations of his family, he struggles with finding his place. While the kids of his mother’s friends are making straight As, Chris is making silly videos for the internet. Feeling as though he’s a disappointment to his mother, Chris finds it hard to connect with her in a meaningful way. As he attempts to walk his own path before his high school career begins, he starts to learn some of the things his family is unable to teach him, including how to skate, how to talk to girls, and how to love his mom. Didi is streaming on Oct. 4.
Despicable Me 4
Stream on Oct. 31
Despicable Me 4 is an animated children’s movie that follows everyone’s favorite supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League-agent, Gru (Steve Carell), on his latest adventure. When Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) escapes from prison, Gru, Lucy (Kristen Wiig), Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), Agnes (Madison Skyy Polan), and Gru Jr. are forced to relocate to a safe house for their own protection. In the meantime, in an effort to combat Maxime and other villains to come, the Anti-Villain League creates a new secret weapon known as Mega Minions. Still rife with plenty of silly antics, the new Minions are supercharged with special abilities, which will likely prove effective for the survival of Gru and the rest of his family. Despicable Me 4 is streaming on Oct. 31.
