Of the many Stephen King adaptations that are releasing this year on both the big and small screens, perhaps none is grittier than The Long Walk. Based on the 1979 novel of the same name, The Hunger Games’ Francis Lawrence takes point on the new film, directing an ensemble cast through a grueling journey of self-discovery that promises to be a metaphor for both life and death. Set to hit theaters on September 12, we now have our first look at the new King film, which stars Cooper Hoffman as the book’s protagonist, Ray Garraty.
The images from The Long Walk (seen below) come by way of Vanity Fair, and showcase a little of what we can expect when the film hits theaters later this year. There are a few images of the ensemble cast walking (natch), but there are also shots of stars Mark Hamill and Judy Greer, who play The Major and Mrs. Garraty, respectively. In addition to the three already mentioned, The Long Walk also stars David Jonsson as Peter McVries, Garrett Wareing as Stebbins, Charlie Plummer as Gary Barkovitch, and Ben Wang as Hank Olson.
