Simone Biles Dresses Up and Celebrates the Friends She Loves Most

Simone Biles’ Instagram feed offered something a little different this week. The gymnastics legend posted a brief, affectionate message about getting dressed up to celebrate a close friend, giving followers a peek at her life beyond competition.

Her caption read, “love getting to dress up & celebrate sweet friends 💞”

She kept it personal, without spelling out names or the occasion. That kind of restraint has always been part of how she handles her private life, and her followers seem to appreciate it.

It’s a contrast worth noticing. Biles is 29 and carries one of the most remarkable athletic legacies in modern sports. Her 2024 Paris Olympics comeback is already the stuff of sports legend. She had stepped away from the 2020 Tokyo Games to protect her mental health. It was a decision that changed the conversation around athlete wellbeing at the highest level. Paris was her answer to all of it. She came home with four medals. Gold went her way in the team event, the individual all-around, and the vault. A silver in the floor exercise rounded it out.

Off the podium, she has built something that looks genuinely full. She married NFL safety Jonathan Owens in April 2023, and the two have been openly warm about their relationship ever since. Owens has shown up at gymnastics competitions; Biles has cheered him on through football seasons. They have spoken in interviews about how demanding their schedules can be. Showing up for each other, they’ve said, is non-negotiable.

Her mental health advocacy has grown alongside her athletic profile. Since the Tokyo withdrawal, Biles has been outspoken about the pressures facing elite athletes. She has given interviews about the psychological toll of competing at the highest level. Her Netflix docuseries Simone Biles Rising, released in 2024, gave a wider audience a fuller picture of who she actually is. Through all of it, she’s been careful to protect what matters most, including her friendships.

Those friendships stay mostly out of view. She trains at the World Champions Centre in Spring, Texas, the gym her parents founded, and keeps her inner circle close. She doesn’t often broadcast her personal life with tagged posts or public shout-outs. Personal moments like this one don’t come often. That rarity makes them feel more genuine.

There’s something quietly appealing about a post that isn’t selling anything. No product, no campaign. It’s a genuine expression of affection for people she loves. It fits the version of Biles that followers see outside the arena: someone who takes her sport seriously but knows what truly matters.

Athletes today are expected to be brands as much as competitors. Against that backdrop, a simple post about celebrating a friend still cuts through. It’s warm, it’s human, and for a lot of the people who follow her, it’s part of why they started paying attention in the first place.
