The Mandalorian Producer Teases Force-Filled Season 3 and More Boba Fett Adventures

What would Star Wars Day in the year 2021 be without a little tidbit about The Mandalorian season 3 and the future of the franchise? The second season of the live-action Star Wars series concluded its run earlier this year on Disney+ in truly epic fashion. Whether or not that finale can even be topped remains to be seen. That said, executive producer Dave Filoni, one of the masterminds behind the show, has promised that the Force will be strong with the series when it returns.

What can @dave_filoni tell us about season 3 of #TheMandalorian? “I think the Force will be strong with it, let’s just say that.”#MayThe4th#MayThe4thBeWithYou#StarWarsDayhttps://t.co/i9rZzYvW4spic.twitter.com/6hMl0yxryh

Dave Filoni appeared on Good Morning America to promote his new series Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which debuted its first episode on Disney+ in honor of Star Wars Day. Filoni was asked what he could say about The Mandalorian season 3 during the interview. Naturally, he couldn’t say much at this stage but did offer some assurance that it will be worth the wait. Here’s what Dave Filoni had to say about it.

“That’s a tricky one. I don’t like to go into those answers as much without Jon here, my partner Jon Favreau. It’s exciting. We’re working on that. We’re working on [The Book of] Boba Fett right now. There’s a lot of new adventures coming up. I have to be careful. I can’t really say anything specific, but I think the Force will be strong with it, let’s just say that.”

What we know for sure is that the show will be radically changed when it returns. The Mandalorian season 2 finale saw Luke Skywalker take Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, into his care to train him in the ways of the Jedi. That means Pedro Pascal’s Mando will presumably be without his trusty companion in season 3. Thus, the dynamic that completely shaped the first two seasons will be upended.

As Dave Filoni mentions, they are currently working on The Book of Boba Fett, a surprise spin-off announced in a post-credits scene attached to The Mandalorian season 2 finale. That is just one of many live-action Star Wars shows in development for Disney+. Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic, Lando and The Acolyte are also coming down the pipeline. Addressing what lessons he learned from Star Wars creator Geroge Lucas, Filoni had this to say about what he will try to remember as the franchise expands.

“George, there are so many things that he taught me but one of the big ones was to remember that this is primarily a show for kids and that we’re supposed to inspire them. To give them something that’s hopeful and something to believe in. Which, I think, sometimes we could all use. That’s one big one I keep in mind for sure.”

The Book of Boba Fett is set to arrive on Disney+ in December. As for The Mandalorian season 3, production is expected to begin in April, meaning we will likely see it debut sometime in 2022. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as any further details are made available. You can check out the interview clip for yourself from the Good Morning America Twitter account.
