Stranger Things Star Millie Bobby Brown is Ready to Move on, Pursue Projects She is ‘Passionate About’

Summary

  • Millie Bobby Brown is ready to move on from her iconic role as Eleven on Stranger Things to explore different characters and stories.
  • Brown has a number of projects in development, including starring opposite Chris Pratt in The Electric State, which she finds very exciting.
  • Brown is passionate about creating meaningful stories and loves telling real stories which can reach wide audiences. And she considers herself fortunate to be in a position to do so.

It’s Eleven, and the clock will soon strike midnight on Netflix’s Stranger Things. Actress Millie Bobby Brown has played the super-powered Eleven, aka Jane Hopper, since the streaming series first dropped back in 2016. But the versatile thespian is ready to explore different characters and stories outside of the show she’s led since 12 years of age. Brown said in an interview with Glamour:

“When you’re ready, you’re like, ‘All right, let’s do this. Let’s tackle this last senior year. Let’s get out of here.’ Stranger Things takes up a lot of time to film, and it’s preventing me from creating stories that I’m passionate about. So, I’m ready to say, ‘Thank you, and goodbye.’ When it ends, I’m going to be able to still see these people.”

Brown’s career continues to soar, and it will do so even after the conclusion of Stranger Things. The actress has a number of projects in various degrees of development, including the Russo Brothers’ The Electric State. The 2024 film features Stanley Tucci, Ke Huy Quan and Chris Pratt. “To be able to go toe-to-toe with Chris Pratt!” Brown said in the same interview. “It’s a very exciting opportunity.”

Eleven’s Days Are Numbered

Netflix

While Millie Bobby Brown’s last go-round as Eleven will happen in Stranger Things 5, the actress will be starring opposite the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy himself, Chris Pratt, in Joe and Anthony Russo’s The Electric State. 25 years her senior, Pratt recognizes the enormous talent Brown possesses at only 19 years of age. Pratt told Glamour in the same interview:

“In a way it’s hard to believe she’s so young. There’s a rawness to her performances. She’s present, capable, talented, and her process is like shooting from the hip — it takes real confidence. The people who can do it are especially electric.”

Brown was also very complimentary when she spoke of Pratt. The actress said in the same interview:

He’s such a great man, but also a great actor and a great costar. And you rarely get that in this business, to work with men that really support you and understand you and let you shine.

Eleven is consistently one of the best characters on Stranger Things, and seeing Jane Hopper’s journey end will undoubtedly be hard for some fans to handle. But Brown is looking forward to pushing herself creatively in different roles, with complex and intriguing story arcs. “As a producer, I am very interested in creating meaningful stories,” Brown said in an interview posted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (per A.frame). “I love big messages to reach wide audiences. I love telling real stories. I’m in a very fortunate position to be able to do that, and I’m very aware of that.”
