Better Call Saul Season 6 Will Be Split Into Two Parts

The sixth and final season of Better Call Saul will apparently have an intermission. Currently, production on the Breaking Bad spinoff’s final episodes is underway, and the cast and crew are quickly approaching a wrap on the series finale. It’s bittersweet for fans as it will be thrilling to see how this story comes to a close after six seasons, but the final episode will also mean we’ll likely never see any of these characters ever again.

In a recent interview with Variety to promote her role in AMC’s short-form series Cooper’s Bar, Rhea Seehorn – who plays breakout character Kim Wexler – provided a small update on the final season. She obviously cannot divulge any particular “deep dark secrets,” such as when the show will wrap filming exactly or what might happen with her character, but she did tease that what’s to come will leave Better Call Saul fans feeling stunned.

“[Bob Odenkirk is] doing amazing. And like I said, whether I’m in scripts or not, I get to read them and I can tell you that this season is insane. It’s going to blow people’s minds. I can’t wait for it to come out.”

Also in the Variety article, it is noted that the final season of Better Call Saul will “air over two halves.” This seems to confirm the rumors that the show would be split up into two halves, as the final season will consist of 13 episodes rather than the traditional 10. The final season of Better Call Saul’s parent series, Breaking Bad, also split up the fifth and final season into two halves.

With Rhea Seehorn’s Kim Wexler, there’s a lot of concern from fans about what will happen to the character. She does not appear in Breaking Bad, even with Jimmy McGill (aka Saul Goodman) serving as a main character on that show, so it seems most likely she’s out of the picture by the end of Better Call Saul. Does she have a falling out with Jimmy, or does something more sinister happen with her? Because Kim is one of the show’s most popular characters, many are feeling afraid of her fate.

Seehorn is one of a handful of big names that have emerged as fan favorites on Better Call Saul that hadn’t first appeared on Breaking Bad. Both Nacho Varga (Michael Mando) and Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) are mentioned in passing in Breaking Bad, though neither ever actually appeared. The two of them just had a very serious falling out in the fifth season of Saul, and with Lalo seeking vengeance, this is another storyline that has fans wondering what will happen.

It’s clear that Better Call Saul is not quite as popular as Breaking Bad, but that is not a reflection of the show’s quality. Those who’ve stuck with it are finding the show just as good, if not better, than the show that spawned it. The final season of Saul will also see a revisit to that Breaking Bad timeline as we will get an answer as to what happens in the future with Jimmy now living under an assumed name in Omaha. Let’s just hope it’s at least somewhat of a happy ending. This news comes to us from Variety.
