Sam Reid Dishes on Lestat De Lioncourt, Interview With the Vampire Season 2

Lestat de Lioncourt has every reason to be upset. At the conclusion of Interview with the Vampire Season 1, Lestat (Sam Reid) was betrayed by his lover Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) and the vengeful Claudia (Bailey Bass). While Lestat seems to have succumbed to death, Reid understands that kind of drastic deviation from the source material and other minor changes are two different things.

Sam Reid said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike:

“The way that they have made the changes to the book really stays true to the soul of the book and expands certain moments. There are enough to keep fans of the book series interested and excited about what is happening, and enough teasers to the expanded universe that exists within Anne Rice’s books.”

Reid also told Entertainment Weekly:

“What I think is going to be exciting for people to see is that this season really breaks open. It was sort of like a little domestic drama between three vampires in the first season, and we’re now meeting a lot more vampires and the world begins to expand. It is a lot bigger than just that drawing room in New Orleans. They have found a way to weave in lots of little Easter eggs about where we’re going in the future, and that’s exciting.”

With Lestat supposedly destroyed in last year’s season finale titled The Thing Lay Still, Season 2 will follow Louis and Claudia’s time with the Théâtre des Vampires of the Temple du Boulevard in Paris. But fans of Anne Rice’s 1976 novel know that Lestat will return.

Sam Reid is excited about the stories Interview with the Vampire showrunner Rolin Jones is telling, which are based off of the novels in Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles literary franchise. Lestat’s anger with Louis and Claudia is boiling over, but there are new characters who are going to make things even all the more complicated in Season 2 for Lestat de Lioncourt.

Reid said in the same interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“Finding out more about Armand, and Louis and Armand’s relationship and their dynamic, which is very different to Louis and Lestat, it’s exciting. It’s a wild ride. I get tingles when I see Assad [Zaman] as Armand — it’s very spine-tinglingly good. As is Ben Daniels, who plays Santiago. People are in for a real treat.”

In Season 1, the AMC/AMC+ series focused on the first half of Rice’s seminal novel, and the second half will continue its reimagining of the source material in 2024. However, fans of the book will have plenty to cheer for when watching the show.

Reid also told EW:

“Anne Rice wasn’t afraid to break rules, to push boundaries, and make people unhappy with some of the choices that she made. She’s not always out to give everyone what they want, and it is confronting as a fan of a book to sort of read some of those things. And we honor that in the show. We’re not always making choices that are going to make everyone happy. We’re honoring that kind of anarchic element that Anne Rice had in her writing.”

The new teaser trailer for Interview with the Vampire Season 2 dropped at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). And while Lestat is only seen in a portrait, fans are treated to first looks at the evil vampire Santiago (Ben Daniels), the new Claudia (Delainey Hayles), Madeline (Roxane Duran) and the Théâtre des Vampires troupe.
