The CW Network has canceled All American: Homecoming, leaving one of its producers and fans devastated. The third season, which premieres on July 8, will be the show’s last (via TVLine). All American: Homecoming creator and executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll reacted to the news through a statement, noting her disappointment with CW’s decision but expressing gratitude to the team behind the series:

“I’m devastated to learn that
All American: Homecoming
will not be moving forward with more episodes and that this new season premiering in July will be our final one. However, I am so very grateful to have worked with this incredible cast and crew, led by Geffri Maya, to bring the authentic HBCU experience to your screens for the last three seasons. We made this show for the culture and thank our loyal audience and fans for taking this ride with us. We made this show so that our community, our kids and their dreams could be seen and celebrated every week and we are proud to say we accomplished that mission, especially with this exciting final season which we can’t wait to show you all.”

So with a heavy but proud heart, I give one final shoutout to our favorite Bringston Lions!

A spokesperson for the CW also thanked the cast and crew and said the “upcoming final season is the best yet.”

Throughout social media, viewers also expressed their disappointment with All American: Homecoming’s cancelation. Many questioned why the network had decided to move forward with All American and not All American: Homecoming, with some opining that the latter was the superior series.

All American: Homecoming, a spinoff of All American, follows Simone HIcks (GeffriMaya), a young tennis hopeful from Beverly Hills, as she contends with the high stakes of university sports at a Historically Black College – the fictional Brigston University – in Atlanta. The series also stars Sylvester Powell, Netta Walker, Mitchell Edwards, Camille Hyde, Martin Bobb-Semple, Cory Hardrict, and Rhoyle Ivy King. Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette will appear in recurring roles during the series’ third and final season.

Another Popular CW Series Gets Canceled

In an interview with the publication just last month, Brad Schwartz, The CW’s President of Entertainment, said that conversations regarding the futures of All American, All American: Homecoming, and Walker were ongoing. At that time, Schwartz also shared that the upcoming season finales for all the shows could serve as proper series finales. Of the three, All American was the only one to receive a renewal, which marks a confirmed seventh season for the sports drama.

Walker, which starred CW staple Jared Padalecki and served as a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger, was canceled last month, making its ongoing fourth season its final one. Despite a successful run, the CW cut the series due to high production costs. Walker’s concluding episode will air on June 26.
