Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Gets Hyped by Creator Vivienne Medrano

Summary

  • Season 2 of
    Hazbin Hotel
will explore characters’ backstories, enriching fans’ connection to the narrative arc.
  • Creator Vivienne Medrano hints at more focus on unique pet characters Fat Nuggets and KeeKee in the upcoming season.
  • Technical improvements from Season 1 will enhance storytelling and production quality in Season 2, promising a more satisfying experience.

Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano teased fans have much to look forward to with the upcoming episodes of Season 2. The creator discussed the evolution of the series, particularly how the second season will expand upon the groundwork laid in the first.

According to Medrano, during her interview with Collider, while the first season was tightly packed and focused on delivering a compelling story, the next season will allow for a broader exploration of the show’s themes and characters.

“I feel like Season 2 grows in really exciting ways that I’m personally enjoying a lot. There are things in Season 1 that I really wanted to build up to and have a little bit more of a presence, but just because of how tight it was and how we really wanted to focus on the story we were telling and make it really satisfying, we weren’t able to build some things,” said Medrano.

So, what I like about Season 2 is that we are more able to build some things up that could lead to bigger payoffs later down the line.

“I think, just in general, we learned so much on a technical level making the first season that going into the second season we feel a lot more like, ‘Yeah, let’s do this,'” Medrano continued.

This approach suggests a richer narrative arc and potentially more satisfying conclusions to the stories fans have become invested in. Medrano touched upon the backstory of the main characters—specifically their lives before their time in Hell. Hazbin Hotel’s creator hinted that the second season would explore these histories, providing fans with the context behind the characters’ current predicaments in Hell.

Obviously, that’s something that we’ll slowly unravel over the course of the show. Season 2 will get into a couple of those characters’ backstories and why. I’m also excited for that.

Exploring the Hellish Menagerie of Hazbin Hotel’s Unique Pet Characters

Prime Video

Medrano shed light on the unique pet characters of Hazbin Hotel, which include both demonic and mystical creatures fashioned by the denizens of Hell itself. Particularly noteworthy is the creator’s development of Razzle and Dazzle, imagined as plush toys brought to life by Lucifer, serving as a sort of hellish dragon duo.

Fat Nuggets and KeeKee are set to receive more attention in the upcoming season. “Fat Nuggets is a hell-born hellpig. We show a couple in Helluva Boss just to show they do exist. And then KeeKee is interesting because she is technically a manifestation of the hotel. We wanted the hotel to have a physical character to represent it, and we’re gonna try to show that a little bit more in Season 2 visually,” Medrano remarked.

She’s a literally small character so it’s hard to show her sometimes, but she’s meant to represent the key. That’s why she turns into the key in and things like that. But yeah, she has the ability to technically manipulate the hotel itself because she kind of is it in a way.

Medrano also discussed the technical improvements and creative learnings from the first season. She and her team have taken these learnings into stride, which she believes will enhance the production quality and storytelling in the new season.
