Joey Bada$$ is seemingly reigniting his jabs at West Coast hip-hop on his latest single ‘Sorry Not Sorry’. Check it out below.
Featuring production from Mario Luciano and Conductor Williams, the track’s first verse sees the Pro Era member appear to take aim at J.Cole.
“Might deletе later, I know damn sure that Joey won’t / Fuck it, I want all thе smoke (Yeah), put my credit on the line / ‘Cause n****s can’t fuck with me, we talkin’ ’bout it line for line,” he raps.
The first line seems to be a direct nod to J.Cole’s 2024 mixtape ‘Might Delete Later’, which included his diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar, ‘7 Minute Drill’. Although, at the time, it seemed that Cole was taking sides amid K.Dot’s beef with Drake, the ‘She Knows’ rapper later retracted his jab at Lamar and pulled the song from streaming.
Some were quick to praise the rapper for staying out of the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud – which made countless headlines last year – while others criticised the rapper for getting involved too soon and throwing his reputation into question by going back on his initial stance.
As highlighted by HipHopDX, the new track by Joey Bada$$ also seems to take aim at the West Coast as a whole. “51 Hart Street, 193 Vernon Avenue/ n****s with attitudes/Man, I’m bigging up my city, that’s something I had to do,” he raps.
The start of the year also saw the rapper come back with a vengeance, dropping the confrontational single ‘The Ruler’s Back’. In that track, the East Coast star confronts the media and public for giving preference to his peers from the West Coast.
“Too much West Coast dick lickin’ / I’m hearing n****s throwin’ rocks, really ain’t shit stickin’ / ‘Cause if we’re talking bar for bar, really it’s slim pickings,” he raps.
The rapper’s last full album was ‘2000’, which he shared in 2022 and included appearances from the likes of JID, Chris Brown, Westside Gunn, Chuck Strangers, Larry June, and Statik Selektah.
