Johnny Depp’s comeback looks set to include a lead role in Ti West’s take on one of the most adapted stories of all time; A Chirstmas Carol.
As reported by Deadline, Paramount looks set to bring Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol to cinemas on November 13, 2026, with Depp taking on the titular role of Ebeneezer Scrooge. Andrea Riseborough is set ot costar with the former Pirates of the Caribbean star, in what could be his biggest movie since his legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard.
A Christmas Carol has had no shortage of adaptations since the classic Christmas ghost story was published in 1843. Believed to have had over 400 movie and TV interpretations, including two major movies, an animated film, several TV series, and loose adaptations like Ryan Reynolds’ Spirited just in the last decade. Can this new take bring anything different to the story? With the director of Pearl, X, and Maxxxine behind it, there is every chance the answer could be yes.
Ti West has been one of several new horror directors that have been pushing boundaries and making a name for themselves very quickly in Hollywood circles. It will need something with a bold and fearless approach to bring something new to any adaptation of A Christmas Carol, as there are very few avenues that have not already been explored serveral times over.
