Love Island USA is one of the few series I pay attention to during the summer months, so it pains me to say this:
Love Island USA Season 8 started with so much promise, but it’s borderline unwatchable just a few weeks into its run.
The biggest issue plaguing the series is producer intervention. The show prides itself on being dramatic, but every single moment so far has felt like drama for drama’s sake.

I don’t like to name names, and this isn’t even his fault, but Corbin Mims went from being one of the hottest bombshells to one of the most aggravating contestants.
He’s practically responsible for the Love Island USA Season 8 boot order being so out of whack.
Ahead of Corbin’s arrival, Sean Reifel was slowly building a strong connection with Kenzie Annis and seemed poised to pick her during the season’s first recoupling.
But Corbin threw a wrench into those plans because, as the bombshell, he got to pick first, leaving Sean without anyone else to couple up with and making him the first islander sent packing.

It was difficult to watch because there was a genuine spark between Sean and Kenzie that deserved more time to develop.
Love Island has allowed single islanders to remain in the villa before, so there were plenty of ways to keep that story alive without cutting Sean loose so early.
Love Island USA’s Boot Order is a Mess
Sean had a lot to give the show, which made his exit feel less like a natural development and more like a misguided attempt to raise the stakes.
Then there’s the latest recoupling, which split up Corbin and Kenzie thanks to a viewer vote and left Corbin with a decision to make: whether to couple up with Beatriz Hatz or Melanie Moreno.

It just seemed odd to give Corbin this power so soon after he played a role in sending Sean home.
How are we supposed to get invested in these relationships if they aren’t given any breathing space?
Beatriz being sent home was an utter travesty and one I still can’t forgive. That said, I wouldn’t have wanted Melanie to go either.
They’re both delivering great reality TV, but I just can’t get on board with how things are playing out because everything feels so contrived.

Also, what the actual hell was that viewer vote that split up three couples just to keep the new bombshells in the villa a little longer?
With Casa Amor on the horizon, I find myself in an unusual position: I don’t care about any of the relationships.
Most of them haven’t been given enough time to develop before another twist arrives to tear them apart.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded Casa Amor getting the pink slip this season because Love Island USA Season 8 has already featured enough producer intervention.

I watch this show for relationships to form and grow, not to be cut short because production keeps meddling.
The sad part is that Love Island USA Season 8 started in a genuinely good place.
But instead of letting relationships evolve naturally, production has spent weeks forcing drama at every turn.
As a result, the show has lost sight of what made viewers care in the first place, and I don’t think there’s a road back unless an overhaul is planned.
