Australian Fans Love Colin from Accounts, You Can Watch it on Paramount+

When it comes to comedy, Paramount+ has no shortage of great series. The streaming platform carries everything from South Park to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, among just a few of its stand-out acclaimed programs. At the same time, the platform has also helped launch modern comedy hits, including The Good Fight and the revival of the cultural staple Beavis and Butt-Head. The streaming platform has another hit on its hands, one that is gaining buzz and gaining a growing audience.

Colin from Accounts charms viewers on Paramount+ with its mix of romance and absurd humor (a cute little dog at the center of the story certainly does not hurt). This is how Colin from Accounts has gone from an acclaimed Australian comedy to an international hit and why you must watch it on Paramount+.

Colin from Accounts Is Australia’s Hit Comedy

Colin from Accounts is a mature rom-com series centered around Ashley, a student doctor, and Gordon, a microbrewery owner. They were brought together in the inaugural season after an accident led them to care for a stray dog, Colin. This incident sparks a relationship between the two, and the series focuses on the couple’s insecurities, disagreements, and personal and professional challenges and how they overcome those to find solace in each other. The result is a comedy that has won both critical and fan praise for its authentic approach to relationships with relatable humor that also is comfortable getting a bit raunchy and over-the-top with its scenarios, highlighted in the hilarious “Ethical Porn” episode of season 2.

Colin from Accounts series stars real-life married couple Harriet Dyer as Ashley and Patrick Brammall as Gordon, who also wrote for the series. Both Dyer and Bramall are familiar faces in the TV format, with Bramall starring in the Paramount+ original Evil and Dyer known for appearing in the hit Australian drama Love Child. The bestest boy in the show, Border Terrier Colin, is played by two dog actors, Zak and Buster Feddersen. The cast is rounded out by Emma Harvie as Megan, Michael Logo as Brett, and Genevieve Hegney as Chiara.

Praise for Colin from Accounts

Colin from Accounts has indeed won audiences with its realistic and endearing take on couplehood in the modern era. For its first season, the show currently has a 100% Fresh rating with critics and a 94% Popocornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes; on IMDb, it has an 8.1/10 rating. Lucy Mangan of The Guardian gave the initial season a glowing 5/5-star review, calling the show “unfailingly funny, honest, acute and kind, with uniformly understated but pitch-perfect performances.” In her review of the second season, Mangan would also reiterate the continued success of the show sticking to its routes; “I cannot tell you with what trepidation I approached the second season, or how delighted I am to tell you that everything that made it great is back.”

Colin from Accounts has garnered nine wins and fourteen nominations across award ceremonies, including receiving Most Outstanding Comedy Program at Australia’s Logie Awards and Breakthrough Comedy Series at the 2024 Gotham TV Awards. In its native Australia, the dramedy became the most-watched original scripted series of all time, and its jump to Paramount+ has undoubtedly helped the program’s name recognition grow into the global fan-favorite it is today.

You Need to Check Out Australia’s Buzziest Comedy on Paramount +

Couples on TV can be irritating, especially when a show uses a series of in-jokes that require fans to be in on the lore and lingo to ‘truly appreciate’ a show. However, where Colin from Accounts has garnered a larger audience is in its clever writing that manages to take the tropes of a rom-com-focused comedy and balance authenticity with some absurd scenarios. Colin from Accounts has become Australia’s buzziest series because it goes beyond the insular nature of the rom-com genre and gives the audience accessible and relatable comedy.

The real-life married duo of Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall adds to this authenticity, making it the perfect comedy for couples to enjoy together. This is particularly true of age-gap relationships, with Colin from Accounts receiving praise for its approach to exploring a romance with a decade-apart couple. Much of the series’ humor comes from navigating an age-gap relationship, how it can shape interactions and misunderstandings, as well as how finding common ground is essential to making things work.

The show has also proven its broad appeal with its addition to Paramount+ and subsequent fanfare on the platform. It is one of the few Australian TV shows to find success globally; we dare you to name more imports beyond Bluey, Mr Inbetween, or Farscape. The show is certainly worth your time, and you can stream both seasons of Colin from Accounts on Paramount+ now.
