Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin will miss the remainder of the season after an MRI revealed he suffered an ACL injury Sunday versus the New Orleans Saints.
“Chris has an ACL,” Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Monday, according to Sarah Walsh of FOX Sports. “And he’s done. He’ll be done for the season.”
Godwin was initially believed to have sustained an MCL sprain, which wouldn’t have necessarily been season-ending.
The 25-year-old was hurt on a low but legal hit from P.J. Williams while attempting to corral a pass. He eventually left the field under his own power.
Godwin is playing on the franchise tag and is scheduled to become a free agent in 2022. He leads the Buccaneers with 1,103 receiving yards to go with five touchdowns, and he topped the team in receiving during last year’s playoffs.
The Buccaneers also lost wide receiver Mike Evans to a hamstring injury versus the Saints, but Arians said the 28-year-old should return quickly.
“Don’t know when, but soon,” said Arians.
Tampa Bay will soon have wide receiver Antonio Brown back in the fold. Brown, 33, is returning from a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols and hasn’t played since spraining his ankle in Week 5.
