Apple TV+ continues to diversify its content portfolio. The online streaming platform recently unveiled the launch date for its upcoming animated show, Strange Planet.
The series is a delightful reinterpretation of the highly admired webcomic, Strange Planet, originally authored by Nathan W. Pyle. Before becoming a graphic novel, this webcomic amassed a vast following on various social media platforms. The debut of Strange Planet on the streaming service is slated for Aug. 9, 2023, with the platform planning to roll out fresh episodes each Wednesday thereafter. This season consists of 10 intriguing episodes, each a delightful exploration of the alien “beings” and their quotidian activities.
Nathan Pyle will serve as an executive producer of the series. Pyle rose to internet fame with his enchanting webcomic. The series has been co-created and executive produced by Dan Harmon. Harmon is widely known and credited for this works on popular shows such as Rick and Morty and Community.
Apple Studios provides a captivating synopsis of the series: a humorous and discerning look at a world remarkably similar to our own, where blue beings scrutinize human customs and traditions through the lens of absurdity. Pyle has deftly managed to capture the audience’s imagination. He has two published books and a thriving social media presence where he regularly shares comic updates. The Strange Planet series marks Dan Harmon’s latest venture following the launch of Krapopolis, an animated comedy series with Fox.
A stellar voice cast will breathe life into the comic strip’s characters on the television screen. The ensemble includes Tunde Adebimpe, social media influencer Demi Adejuyigbe, Lori Tan Chinn of Orange Is the New Black fame, Danny Pudi from Community, and Hannah Einbinder. Strange Planet represents a fresh addition to the diverse catalog of Apple TV+, which includes acclaimed series such as Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, The Afterparty, Five Days at Memorial, The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray, and The Mosquito Coast. The platform also recently aired the Season 1 finale of its highly-praised science fiction dystopian drama series, Silo.
