The half-hour animated comedy Little Demon has been ordered to series at FXX. Executive produced by Rick & Morty co-creator Dan Harmon, the series stars Danny DeVito, his real-life daughter Lucy DeVito, and Aubrey Plaza in lead voice roles. Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner, and Kieran Valla created the series, which comes from Danny DeVito’s Jersey Films 2nd Avenue, ShadowMachine, and FX Productions.
Danny voices Satan in Little Demon with daughter Lucy co-starring as his Antichrist daughter. Per Deadline, a logline for Little Demon reads: “13 years after being impregnated by the Devil (Danny DeVito), a reluctant mother (Aubrey Plaza) and her Antichrist daughter (Lucy DeVito) attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware, but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul.”
Plaza also serves as an executive producer alongside Harmon, Fowler, Kirschner, Valla, Jersey Films 2nd Avenue’s Jake, Lucy, and Danny DeVito, and ShadowMachine’s Monica Mitchell, Corey Campodonico, and Alex Bulkley. Steve Levy is also on board to serve as a producer with FX Productions also producing.
“Little Demon is a hilarious new animated horror comedy featuring Danny DeVito, Aubrey Plaza, Lucy DeVito and a host of other great talent,” said Nick Grad, president original programming at FX Entertainment, in a statement. “Creators Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner and Kieran Valla have teamed up with Danny, Aubrey, Dan Harmon, Jake and Lucy DeVito, and ShadowMachine as executive producers on this unique new series for FXX.”
As a beloved veteran actor, there’s any number of roles where fans might remember Danny DeVito from the best. These days, he’s been playing the popular role of Frank Reynolds on the FX and FXX sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which was renewed through season 18 in December. As far as his voiceover work, DeVito is also praised for playing Philoctetes in Disney’s Hercules, and many fans want to see him reprise the role in a live-action remake. He is also set to star in Barry Levinson’s upcoming drama The Survivor.
Lucy DeVito is the daughter of Danny and Rhea Perlman. She previously played the daughter of her father’s character in The Comedian with some of her other movie credits including roles in Leaves of Grass, Dumbo, and Jumanji: The Next Level. Lucy has also appeared on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with Danny and more recently had roles on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Shameless. The actress will next appear in Blonde, a Marilyn Monroe biopic in the works at Netflix starring Ana de Armas as the titular actress. That movie will be released later this year.
Meanwhile, Plaza is perhaps best known for her breakout role as April Ludgate in the popular comedy series Parks and Recreation. Horror fans will also remember her in a starring role in 2019’s Child’s Play remake, which co-starred Mark Hamill as the voice of the new Chucky. Plaza also voiced the titular feline in Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever and had roles in Legion, Criminal Minds, and The Legend of Korra.
