Since the series premiered on Vice TV in 2019, Dark Side of the Ring has found great success by quickly becoming the network’s No. 1 show of all time. It has also been named as the No. 1 non-fiction series on networks in less than 70 million homes. During the show’s second season, Dark Side of the Ring reached a total of 15 million viewers. The series has also spawned the upcoming football-themed spinoff series Dark Side of Football.
Over the past 40 years, the pro wrestling business has been host to many heartbreaking stories with very tragic ends. Dark Side of the Ring gives wrestling fans unprecedented access to these stories which is oftentimes far more dramatic than whatever kind of crazy storylines fans might see play out in the ring. That includes the infamous murder-suicide of the Benoit family by the hands of “The Rabid Wolverine” Chris Benoit, an episode told through a two-parter.
Other tragic stories covered by the show include the accidental death of Owen Hart, the infamous Montreal Screwjob, the volatile relationship between Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, the ruthless execution of Dino Bravo, the backstage murder of Bruiser Brody, the unexplained death of Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka’s girlfriend Nancy Argentino, the demise of the Von Erich family, disturbing allegations about the Fabulous Moolah, David Schultz slapping John Stossel on live TV, the life and crimes of New Jack, and the last ride of the Road Warriors, Hawk and Animal.
The popularity of the series has also given it its own talk show, Dark Side of the Ring: Confidential. A companion series, the show features 90-minute episodes with the show’s creators diving into Dark Side of the Ring episodes to answer the unanswered questions. Featuring creators Evan Husney and Jason Eisener, the show is hosted by wrestling insider Conrad Thompson and features special guests from the business like Tommy Dreamer, The Blue Meanie, Savio Vega, and former WWE referee Mike Chioda.
A formal series announcement revealing more stories from Dark Side of the Ring season 3 will be released later this month. The new season will debut on Vice TV on Thursday, May 6, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. This news comes to us from Vice TV.
