Funnyman Kenan Thompson has spent the past two decades on Saturday Night Live, and as of this past weekend, he’s officially performed in 400 episodes. A former child star who grew up doing comedy on Nickelodeon, Thompson has long been the longest-serving cast member on SNL, and the longer he stays on the show, the harder it will be for anyone to ever break that record. Quinta Brunson hosted the show on Saturday night’s episode with Lil Yachty as the musical guest, and one of the show’s standout sketches featured the Abbott Elementary star playing Thompson’s spouse on a fictional game show quizzing couples about just how well they know each other.

The show plays out like The Newlywed Game with the two answering what should be simple questions about their spouse. But while Thompson correctly names Brunson’s favorite food, his wife is in for a surprise when she guesses that his biggest fear is “spiders.” He reveals with oddly specific detail that he’s much more afraid of something else.
“That you’ll fall down the stairs and get hurt so bad that I’ll have to give up my dreams and spend the rest of my life caring for you,” his answer card reads.
Through the course of the game, Thompson’s fear of his wife falling is further teased, culminating with Brunson correctly naming his father as his greatest influence. His dad is then revealed in the crowd, spoon-feeding Thompson’s mother, evidently having been serving as her caregiver. While the two clearly have the most tumultuous of the relationships on the show, they end up winning the game – and a paid trip to Bali’s Temple of a Thousand Steps, much to Thompson’s chagrin.

Will Anyone Ever Surpass Kenan Thompson’s Record?
NBC
It remains to be seen if anyone will ever reach 400 episodes or more on Saturday Night Live, but it certainly won’t be happening anytime soon. Of the top ten longest-tenured cast members of all time for the show, only Colin Jost is still active, and he’s in the No. 9 spot with 187 episodes, recently surpassing Tim Meadows who bowed out in 2000 after 186 episodes. Three longtime cast members – Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and Aidy Bryant – all left last year as well.
In order, the names following Thompson on the list (per TheSNLNetwork) include Darrell Hammond (267 episodes), Seth Meyers (253 episodes), Fred Armisen (220 episodes), Kate McKinnon (204 episodes), Cecily Strong (202 episode), Aidy Bryant (197 episodes), Bobby Moynihan (192 episodes), Colin Jost (187 episodes), and Tim Meadows (186 episodes).
