Ewan McGregor says one particular scene in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series made the Jedi legend cry.
Lucasfilm
After rewatching his Disney+ show Obi-Wan Kenobi, one moment made star Ewan McGregor cry. While the previews for the show made it seem as though it would be Obi-Wan looking after a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely), it was quickly revealed that would not be the case. Instead, Obi-Wan spends the whole series bonding with a young Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair), Luke’s sister. The actor recently sat down with Disney Studio Awards to discuss the series:
“When I saw Episode 6 [of Obi-Wan Kenobi] for the first time… I got to see them down where we show in Manhattan Beach, and I went down there, and I watched Episodes 1 to 3. They literally shut me in a room on my own, and I was so impressed. But when… I was sitting there, and I watched Episode 6… when I tell [Vivien Lyra Blair’s Leia], ‘May the Force Be With You,’ at the end, I burst into tears. I was sitting there… There’s something so moving about it.”
Over the course of their adventure, Leia isn’t the only character from Obi-Wan’s past that he crosses paths with once again. Among others, Obi-Wan also has to deal with learning that, contrary to his previous belief, his former apprentice, Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen), was still alive and very upset with his former master after Obi-Wan cut off his limbs and left him to die on Mustafar.

In a previous interview, McGregor discussed what it was like coming back and working with Christensen again:
“I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again. In the old days, I would joke about, ‘There must be a good story to tell between ‘Episode III’ and ‘VI’.’ But, it’s true. I always felt that there was. I feel like Deborah Chow found it and absolutely nailed it. Like just found the story that we wanted to see between the last one that we did and first that was done in [1977]… And I think it just adds to our knowledge of the characters, and it’s satisfying… for the fans.”
With the above comments sparking interest in Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, multiple people are calling for it to focus on others besides the Skywalker family. Assuming that the show is renewed and the writers go down that route, they could go in several different directions. For instance, Obi-Wan could interact with the Force ghost of his mentor Qui-Gon Jinn after Liam Neeson’s brief cameo during the finale.
Or the show could expand upon Obi-Wan’s conversation with Leia in the third episode, where he talks about his birth family. Since Obi-Wan was taken to be a Jedi at a young age, Obi-Wan explained that he doesn’t remember his family beyond fleeting images. He even says that he thinks he has a younger brother. Whatever direction Lucasfilm and Disney take, fans can only hope to see more from Ewan McGregor in his Jedi robes.
