Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp are on the set of That ’90s Show, a Netflix series that serves as a follow-up to That ’70s show.

Production has started on That ’90s Show. In development at Netflix, the new show serves as a spinoff of That ’70s Show with Red and Kitty Forman actors Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp reprising their roles. Both are currently on set and each has taken to Instagram to share the first set photos with production commencing. Smith’s image, which you can see below, includes a peek at the script that’s on his actor’s chair.
“What’s that in my old ’70s Show chair?” quips Smith. A look at the cover page of the script also reveals what could be the show’s logo, featuring an updated font that’s similar to the Nirvana logo and more reminiscent of the 1990s. The title of the pilot is simply “That ’90s Pilot,” and as expected, the name on the script also confirms Smith is reprising the role of Red Forman in the series.

“And we have started,” writes Debra Jo Rupp, posting another photo to her own Instagram account. She also confirms her return as Kitty Forman with a look at a white chair with her name along with her script on top. These photos don’t quite give us a look at the returns of Red and Kitty and how the Formans will look in the 90s, but it’s exciting to see that filming has commenced. You can look at Rupp’s photo below.
Rupp’s former That ’70s Show co-star Danny Masterson commented on the Instagram post. Masterson, who played Hyde in the original show, was supportive with his response. He wrote, “I pre-nominate you for the Emmy.” It is unlikely Masterson will return as Hyde in That ’90s Show due to the criminal charges against the actor, a result of the allegations against Masterson that had already gotten him fired by Netflix from his role in The Ranch.

The Full Cast of That ’90s Show Was Recently Announced
Netflix
As of now, Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp are the only original cast members from That ’70s Show confirmed to be a part of the cast of the new series. This does not mean that other original cast members won’t appear, even if a Hyde return is improbable. It does seem likely we might see the returns of other fan favorites like Topher Grace as Eric, Laura Prepon as Donna, Ashton Kutcher as Kelso, Mila Kunis as Jackie, and Wilmer Valderrama as Fez.
Netflix has also released the full cast list of all the new characters. Leading the cast as Red and Kitty’s granddaughter (and presumably Eric and Donna’s daughter) is Callie Haverda as Leia Forman. The cast also includes Ashley Aufderheide as her best friend Gwen; Mace Coronel as charming and flirty Jay, who always carries a camcorder; Maxwell Acee Donovan as Jay’s best bud and Gwen’s older brother Nate, the Garth Brooks-loving teen whose van the gang always rides around in; Reyn Doi as Ozzie, the group’s sarcastic, gay friend; and Sam Morelos as Nate’s rebellious girlfriend Nikki.
That ’90s Show does not yet have a release date set by Netflix.
