The vast universe of The Boys is expanding, and the latest addition seems to be throwing a heady twist, quite literally. Ahead of its September 29th debut on Prime Video, Gen V, the much-anticipated spinoff, teases fans with an audacious poster featuring a beheaded Homelander statue surrounded by the young and budding superhero cast.

For those who’ve been living under a rock, The Boys portrays a dark and twisted take on superheroes, drawing attention to a rogue band of vigilantes determined to expose the sinister realities of a corrupt team of supes. Diverging slightly from this central narrative, Gen V shifts the spotlight to a younger generation of emerging superheroes. These teens are being groomed at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, an institution run by none other than Vought International, notorious for its dubious ethics.

Unveiled by Prime Video, this tantalizing poster gives a nod to the franchise’s trademark irreverence. The statue, an effigy of the iconic Homelander portrayed by Antony Starr in The Boys, lies decapitated, its head resting below the feet of the youthful cast, symbolizing perhaps a new era or a shift in power dynamics.

While Gen V introduces characters mostly unfamiliar to The Boys aficionados, the actors who bring them to life are hardly strangers to the entertainment world. Jaz Sinclair, arguably the most prominent figure in the poster, is recognizable from her stint as Roz in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Her film repertoire includes standout roles in Paper Towns, When the Bough Breaks, and Slender Man.

Fans of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will also spot Chance Perdomo, who portrayed Ambrose Spellman, reclining on the statue’s steps. Perdomo is lately gaining attention from his performances in romantic drama sequels After We Fell and After Ever Happy. Joining them is Lizze Broadway, whose memorable turn as Stephanie Stifler in American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules and appearance in Apple TV+’s Ghosted alongside Chris Evans and Ana de Armas won her many fans. The ensemble also boasts of Patrick Schwarzenegger, known for roles in Midnight Sun and The Staircase. Completing the Gen V lineup are Derek Luh (Shining Vale), Asa Germann (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Shelley Conn, who has graced shows like “Bridgerton” and Good Omens, and Maddie Phillips of Supernatural fame.

Seth Rogen, the series producer, is thrilled about the potential shock value of Gen V. Rogen mentioned, in an interview with Empire, that its tone would align with the main series. The involvement of a Vought-funded college introduces intriguing possibilities that have energized the show’s creators. Rogen said:

“Gen V packs some truly wild stuff. The fact that these characters are younger and in college potentially amplifies the shock factor. In general, if you’re making an R-rated thing, they let you do whatever the f*ck you want, unless there’s some real legal thing that they think you might be bumping against. With The Boys, maybe it requires one extra five-minutes phone call, where they’re like, ‘Really?’, and you’re like, ‘Really.’ There are other things you’re on hours of phone calls about that are so much less interesting than that.”

With such a mix of emerging talent, Gen V looks poised to etch its mark in the streaming domain. As expectations mount, the question lingers: Will Gen V replicate the success of its predecessor, The Boys? While the series has yet to prove itself, the early indicators, backed by a stellar cast, hint at a potential new sensation in the making. Fans should brace themselves for the next chapter in the gripping world of morally gray superheroes is about to unfold.
